I am not 91 lbs, far from it, but I am very short. Stay away from pick ups and large ball gowns. They overpower you because of your height. Also stay away from the mermaid/trumpet style, they tend to make you look shorter. I would stick with an a-line dress or a smaller ball gown (something between an a-line and a ball gown). You also might want to consider a dress that gathers at the side. It's funny how it works but it seems to make larger girls look slimmer and slimmer girls look a little wider. Here is my dress:

I am 5'5 but I am very tiny, meaning skinny. I am usually a size 0 or 2 depending on what clothes it is. My only problem is I have big boobs and I had to order a bigger size because of it. I don't think you have to worry about dress. You will look good in anything. Remember you will be wearing heals so you will be taller.

I think an a-line or modified a-line (slimmer cut) will work best on you. A-lines are universally flattering and don't overpower. Also, you might want to try a sheath . It's basically straight all the way down. Stay away from a mermaid and trumpet, it will make you look shorter and they're not cut w/shorter girls in mind because the 'indentation' at the knee (or where it's supposed to be at the knee) will fall well below the knee on someone who's 5' tall, even w/heels.

ETA: Also, when you go dress shopping at first, try and hit one of the places that's super customer service oriented, like a Kleinfeld. Even if you have no intention of buying there. The ladies who work there have years of experience and will have greater knowledge of what will work best on you, then you can go from there. HTH. Good Luck!

You can choose any gown just have it altered with your measurements

I'm 5'1 and a size 2/4 and I tried on every single style known to man. The best look was a line for me. It is the brides personal preference of course but the tulle-ball gowns, mermaid, etc was not doing it for me.

I am not tiny but I would suggest a line. You can even try the trumpet style (not quite mermaid). I suggest trying on a few styles to see but you will definatley get lost in a ballgown.

I can totally relate to what your saying. I've always been a skinny minnie...lol...and yes it's annoying when people tell me OMG you're soo SKINNY, I think it's just as inappropriate as saying DAMN your're FAT

So when I was looking at dresses I was also scared of having this huge dress that over powers me. My mom wanted a big puffy dress and I said no way, i want a mermaid or A Line. But when I looked for dresses I learned that a lot of different styles fit my body type. Some I would have never imagined too. So the problem actually came down to, what style do I ike. I reccomend you try a lot of different cuts and styles. Then, narrow it down from there. I did pick a dress I didn't originally have in mind.

I'm small 5'1 and 105 pounds. My dress is an a-line. I wouldn't worry. Just don't get anything to poofy. The dress will be fitted for you and it will be beautiful.

definitely try a-line dresses...im not real skinny but i am 5'2 and a-line is great for shorter girls...My dress comes out and still has that effect but definitely not a ballgown where its TOO big...its funny bc before i went dress shopping i thought most dresses that came out a bit were called ballgown, so when i told the salesperson ballgown she looked at me and said I REALLY dont suggest that you wont even be able to handle a dress like that, and its so true she brought one out for me to see and i didnt even want to try it on just holding the dress it was extremely heavy and way too big. And let me say that even the a-line dresses are a little heavy and at first when i tried walking around with it you feel it, after a few minutes i got used to it though and was able to move around lol

i'm 5'1 and 105lbs ... to be honest the mermaid look is great for me cause i'm curvy,

Even though i havent bought my dress yet, i like the mermaid look on me, but i have three favs that i'm prob going to choose from and all three are different.

I suggest trying on dresses of all styles the first go around to get a feel for what you like.

My friend is getting married next week actually and she's tinier than i am... she's about 5' and super skinny frame like maybe 100lbs.... her dress is more aline- so i its really about what you like on you.

i'm 5'2 and used to wear a size 0.. now im more like a 5 but thats a whole other story..lol..
but thats why i chose my dress with the dropped waist.. the others seemed to cut me off more... it still has the look cause the bottom is still poofy but it made me look taller and thinner than the ball gowns.. My other choice def. would have been a reg A Line though.. and i noticed the ones that made me look taller had a point to the middle of the dress rather than straight across. those looked best on me.

dont worry bc i have the same issue, most clothes dont fit me right and its one of the reasons i hate shopping...I drive FH crazy bc he'll be like how about this or that and im like no the top wont fit or not this or that even if i like it. Between my top measurement and middle there is a difference of 10 so thats why i have problems finding things that fit properly...With my wedding dress they are ordering it a size bigger so this way it will fit my chest fine and then all they'll do is take it in at the waist...remember wedding dresses are altered to fit you perfectly so they will make sure to do this

i agree with Jess
Im not 91 lbs either but im 5' even
NO PICK UP GOWNS; ball gowns or anything else that is just too big for a petite woman

Re: Any TINY Brides?

I'm 5'1 about 105 and not busty in the least lol and I had the same problem when I started. I ended up picking Maggie Sottero's Mona Lisa Royale (pic in my album). Although its poofy like everyone is suggesting against, I think I looked amazing in it which my mom and sister agreed and loved as well. The good thing is that I was able to order the dress in an extra short which takes 6 inches off the normal dress length. I think it was ordered in a size 2. So hopefully there will be less alterations and the design doesn't get ruined. Just try one all different styles and eventually you'll figure out what minor details make you look your best

Re: Any TINY Brides?

I would really try on all sorts of dresses. I am 4'11' and heard that pick ups aren't good, poofy a-lines aren't good...big slips aren't good. I didn't listen to any of that and just tried on all different dresses. For my entire life I wanted a bridey looking dress that had a nice train and some poof to it.....so, I tried on everything and fell in love with a poofy-ish a-line with pick-ups and a train I always wanted. It looks amazing on and doesn't look funny because I'm short. Try them all on! Have fun.
