Re: any tips for a 1st time cruise?

Soveriegn was my first cruise too! My only tips are to bring dramamine, book excursions online before you even get on the ship (I couldn't believe how fast some of these sold out) and bring an iron!! I couldn't believe that the cabins didn't have irons. I was seriously wrinkled the entire trip!

ETA: Oh yeah, and bring a small bag with whatever you might want right away when you get on the ship (i.e. bathing suit, change of clothes whatever) because it can take a while before your luggage finds its way to your room. And if you want to use any spa services book that right away too!

Yes, you can book excursions on Royal Caribbean's website. You will need your booking reference number.

Re: any tips for a 1st time cruise?

Definetly book your excursions ahead of time. I actually booked one excursion on my own for a dolphin swim. I saved a lot of money. And if you book on the ship you can be too late or have to wait on long lines.

Another tip would be to pick late dinner seating. This gives you time to watch the sunset and time to come back from the islands and relax and shower before dinner. Sometimes when we went on cruises and we had early seatings you felt rushed to get to dinner.

Also if you are outgoing, get involved in the ships activities while at sea. It makes for a very enjoyable time and you can make new friends. My family and I went on our first cruise 15 years ago and we met some people from Florida and they are so close to us still they are coming up from Florida for my wedding

ETA: Also bring envelopes for tips. We got our tip money together ahead of time by going by the suggested amount. We did this so we knew we would not spend that money. In some we ended up putting a little extra in the end.
