Any watermill brides?

Any watermill brides?

I'm having my reception at the watermill in smithtown, was wondering if anyone else is, or if anyone has been there recently for a wedding. Want to make sure that the food and service is good.

A friend of mine's daughter got married there about 2 years ago.

We had a great time and the food was good too; I don't really think anything was bad or else my friend would have opened her mouth.

Do a search on here through the Bride's Review and see what other Watermill brides had to say.

Im actually getting married there the 6th of Nov this year! thats funny we have the same date a year apart!

After we booked our reception there, we actually attended a wedding there for my boss. It was great - the service and the food were amazing! She also had the watermill sundae as her dessert choice and it was a huge hit! HTH!

You should go to one of the showcases to sample the food. It is very good. We were a bitt unsure of booking since they do not do a tasting but since booking we have been very happy with the service and response from family that have been there. Goof luck

As a guest there twice, I will say the place is beautiful and the service is very nice. The first time we were on the lower level. However, this last time, we were in a room upstairs. The only bad thing I noted is that when I had to go to the bathroom, which is on the lower floor, I definitely noticed that there were 2 other weddings going on at the same time. They all seemed to end at the same time, too. In that sense, it was a little impersonal. It was kind of like a wedding factory.

I just went to a wedding there in Dec. It was great. The only thing that I would comment on was the bar service. They stopped serving 10 min before the cocktail hr ended and wouldnt serve until the BP was announced and the toasts were finished. It was a big chunk of time that people couldnt get a drink

I'm sure for all you girls who are having your weddings there, it will be great. I only have one major complaint about the business side of things at the Watermill. My sister-in-law was supposed to get married there this year, but had to cancel the wedding. She did so more than 6 months prior to the date and according to a Suffolk County law the Watermill owes her back the deposit she paid. She sent them a certified letter and they finally answered her with a response of 'take us to small claims court'. When she filed the claim with the court and got the date, she suddenly received a letter that states they would like to 'settle out of court'. I guess they don't want posts like this making them look bad...they should have just followed the law and given her money back. BUYER BEWARE!!

We actually walked up to the place and shook pinkies saying that we were NOT going to sign any contracts. LOL

Well, first of all, we ended up at a couples seminar that was intended for people who had already booked. It was a showcase for some of the recommended vendors as well as a Q&A and lots of food and open bar. We figured if this was how they treated people who had already given them their money, it was a good sign.

Anyway when we went to meet with Samantha it turned out that she wasn't able to confirm the appointment the day before and was so appologetic. She said she couldn't read her handwriting and couldn't find our contract based on her guess. Well, that was because we didn't have a contract. I felt so bad that we dragged her out for nothing. She set us up with Brian to discuss options and before you knew it...contract in hand, check signed, see ya later, cross one off of the list!!

We couldn't be happier with our choice. A lot actually happened in that 'brief' meeting. I think we might have closed the place down, my FH likes to talk and talk and talk and talk. LOL

We can't wait for the party!!! The only thing we are nervous about is the new chapel they are putting in. It's supposed to be done or started next month. We've got a year to go, so I wasn't freaking out. I suppose if they are doing something brand new, it's going to be even better than what they've already got, no? I'm more excited about what it will look like than freaked out over not knowing. Maybe that's just me.

I would relax and rest assured that you (and we) have chosen a wonderful RH.

There are actually alot of RH's that have done this samething, this situation is not just limited to the Watermill. I know when my sister had cancelled with East Winds they had sent her the same letter about taking them to small claims court and actually alot of her vendors did the same, including her wedding dress that they wanted her to finish paying off, flowers and DJ that did not want to give her back any money. Of course, it is wrong but they are all going to try to put up this fight because all vendor contracts do state that your deposit is nonrefundable.

Re: Any watermill brides?

The issue with the hall is different because the law protects you as the consumer. Legally they can't keep your money regardless of what their contracts say. The law supersedes the fine print, and it's just bad business practice. My husband's cousin was getting married at Flowerfields and he cancelled 6 months ahead. They immediately refunded the deposit and didn't give him a hard time at all. It's nice to know that some businesses still do the right thing!!

I've heard that weddings at the Watermill are great and that's why she booked them in the first place, so it is disappointing that it had to end this way. I know I wouldn't refer anyone to them after this.

I've been to two sweet 16s there (no weddings) and everything was great. Plus it looks GORGEOUS from the road.
