Any women with curly hair out there? I need help!

I am thinking of trying a salon in NYC named Ouidad that is for women w/curly hair. It is very $$$$ so I am wondering if anyone has been there and can give me there opinion. Or, if you have curly hair, where do you go to get it cut, anywhere in NYC or Nassau County.

Thanks so much.

I have naturally wavy/curly hair and while I have never been, I have heard great things about this salon. I would like to go oneday for a consulation.

I can't tell you about the salon, but I have used Ouidad products, and they were terrible. It took my hair 2 months to recover from using Ouidad products exclusively.

I've heard Ouidad is a great salon to cut curly hair at. I have wavy/curly hair - i cut my hair in the village - its a small place called the cutting room (i think it is on green street right by waverly - They do a great job - i've been going there for three years now.

I've been to Quidad and I thought the cut was excellent.

They show you how to shape your curls to make them into ringlets. It can be time-consuming though. As for the cut, I thought it was great, even if I didn't have time to do their technique.

The products were also great for my hair. It kept my hair soft and not frizzy.

Very Expensive though!

I go to Maximus in Merrick where I've gone for the last 10 years or so. They are not cheap either but I have very curly hair (let's just say I get it 'relaxed' and it is still really curly) and it's worked for me.

I have wavy/curly hair, and I have no idea how to maintain it. UUGHH! I usually straighten it, but I hate using the blowdryer all them time. It's Definately not good for my hair! If I don't starighten it, it just looks frizzy. Any tips?

I have curly hair down to my shoulders. I use finesse curl defying mousse after I get out of the shower while my hair is still wet. It keeps the frizz down, make the curls softer and more defined. I don't really get cuts, just trim and I have been going to the same salon for 3 years.

I know someone who goes to Ouidad...and let me tell you, her hair looks AMAZING!!!

I also have curly hair and the last time I saw her I just couldn't get over how great her hair looked...she told me she's been going to Ouidad...I may try it one day...

She told me that they tell you to wash your hair every so often...I don't know if I could do that though...

Yep, I only wash it every 3 days. That's the key to keepping curly hair under control and frizz-free!

I have really curly hair...I'm interested in hearing more about this place. Do they have a website? Can anyone tell me prices?

Currently...I use this stuff called 'gel-mousse' and I get it from Maximus Salon in Westbury. Although...I only had my haircut once there...I like the mousse stuff. But..I wash my hair everyday...I can't imaging only washing it every 3 days...it would be a mess. Do you condition it the days that you don't wash it? Inquiring minds want to know....thanks!

Jess2: Who at Maximus cuts your hair? I was going there for years. When I got engaged I decided to try somewhere new so I could save $$$ for the wedding. Soon I'll be married and the money won't be as tight.

Someone asked about the price for Ouidad, they charge $100 for a hair cut.

I am considering trying a few places b/4 I go back to Maximus in Merrick, I just want to see what else is out there.

For Mousse, I use Joico which works well, and I just tried 2BCurly Mousse and I like it also.

Thanks for all your opinions ladies, I think after the wedding I'm going to splurge and see if Ouidad works for me.

I got a haircut at Ouidad a few years ago. I believe that it was about $ 100 for the cut (and then more for the products I bought).

I loved my cut, though I admit that I didn't follow their styling instructions-it just takes too much time to gel and twist each section of hair.

Fun website with lots of curly hair advice, info, forums: NaturallyCurly.com

I was my hair only every other day or so, but I condition every day...

Me too!

I wash my hair every day or every other day, and yes I use conditioner the days that I don't wash it. Otherwise it would look like a rat's nest! I can only comb my hair when it's wet, so that's why I use a ton of conditioner.

I'm ready to chop it all off though! My cousin's wedding is next weekend... after that I think I'm going to cut it shoulder-length. (If I have the cojones!)

has anyone had luck with using a natural shampoo? i have tried hf store brands before but always found that i have need a better conditioner so i stay with finesse or matrix. but i feel that shampoos are so strong and thought about going with a gentle natural shampoo but sticking with same conditioner. does that make sense? i don't like the detergents in shampoo and my curls are so frizzy lately.

I have tried that curling each section...they actually taught me that the one time I went to Maximus. I did it for a few weeks...but it takes too much time. If I spend more than 5-10 mintues on my hair...it's too long IMO.

Re: shampoos. The best I ever used and still do is Nexxus Botanoil shampoo. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Virtually no frizz!

Anyone ever try Bumble & Bumble or their products? I have been reading they have a new line for curly haired people and also now have a new style for cutting curly hair.

I love Redken products - they really control frizz and they dont change the color of your hair - i hate it when hair products make hair darker -

The one that i always use is Redken outshine antifrizz milk.
