Everytime I get extremely stressed or anxious I get a cold sore. Usually Abreva stops it right away, but in the past 2 months Ive gotten 2 and Abreva seems to have stopped working. HOW CAN I NOT GET A COLD SORE FOR MY WEDDING?????????
I know I am going to get one. I will have a huge sweltering sore right on my lip during my wedding. CR@P!!!!!!

i have read in a couple of magazines that it is a good idea to see a dermatologist one month before the wedding so he/she can provide you with anything you need ie. a new cold sore med.
i don't get them but thought i would share that info.

I know this sounds crazy but I started to use soft lips chapstick about a year before my wedding. I used it all the time for years and never had a cold sore. As soon as I switched to a new chapstick and winter rolled round..bam!
I dont know what it is but I think the soft lips really worked for me.

I would definitely go to the dermatologist and find out what's going on. It could be as simple as you being stressed out or some type of an allergic reaction.

for the cold sore - I get the allll the time when i'm stressed.... try Zilactin-L. It's cheaper than abreva, but IMO, it works better. It also has lidocaine in it, so it kills the pain too. Try it!

You know what works really well and is much cheaper than Abreva is Herpecin. You put it on like chapstik - it is fantastic!!!

From someone who SUFFERS from them often...in order to 'avoid' them is by taking L-lysine pills daily. That is why u get them..because u lack it. As far as treating them once that sucker pops up...Abreva, Zovirax, Denavir (prescriptions) and even Valtrex(pill form) will speed up the recovery even at the sign or symptom of one...the tingle. Even applying ice right away helps almost stop it from coming out.

I am sooooo worried about this too. I think I'm going to make an appointment with my dermatologist about a month before like you girls said. He can prescribe pills that can prevent them. All the over the counter medication does not help me. I'm also worried about breaking out!!

My FH is a pharmacist and you can take a vitamin called lysine--they sell it at any drug store--it prevents cold sores. It is worth a try. You can also go to your regular doctor and I believe denivar is a prescription for cold sores.

I have gotten them on days when I am supposed to start a new job, first day of high school, college, etc. and I am hoping to not be so stressed out so I will not get one on the wedding day.
I have used Valtrex and once I feel it coming I take one and it usually stops it before it pops out. Also, I have used Listerine to attack it when I didn't have Valtrex and it burns but it does help some.

I swear my sister has found the remedy for cold sores, the minute you feel one coming on start swabbing your lip with rubbing alcohol. Keep doing it every hour. she does it every time and her cold sores never surface.

Ugh I hate cold sores! I have been getting them since I was 16. The first time I got one I was in High School and it was very tramatic!
Anyway I saw a dermatolgist and he gave me Valtrex (pills) and they work great. As soon as you feel like you might be getting one just take two pills and it will either stop the outbreak or just make it very mild. My dermatolgist said that if you get more then 10 outbreaks a year you could consider taking valtrex everyday to prevent outbreaks. I recommed see a doctor and getting a prescribtion. I plan on taking two pills before my wedding day just to be safe!

Lysine really does work. I took it for about a year and got no cold sores. I stopped and the cold sores came back. I get them on the bottom of my nose, which is weird! Abreva is pretty good.

I take L-Lysene every day... it does work! I also take Valtrex pills at the first sign of one. I actually carry them around with me. I also use Zovirax creme to rub on it. I get them whenever I am stressed... I got one the week of my college graduation and it was HUGE!!!

I do -- the only thing that works for me is perscription Valtrex -- it gets rid of them in 24 hours.
I just posted about this around a week ago. I had one. I put Denevir on it and it was gone in 3 days. I feel your pain ... many hugs your way

Besides taking the pill lysine, they also have a lip balm that is made of lysine - you use it as a regular lip salve every day & it helps to prevent them. I think they have it at GNC or a regular drugstore....

I also get cold sores and am worried about getting them the day of the wedding. I use Valtrex to prevent them. I definitely suggest going to the doctor and gettting a prescription. Even if the cold sore does break out healing time is cut in half at least.
