after their wedding? FH and I just don't want to strap ourselves and buy a house here on LI. We love it here but can't lead the life we want here. Anybody feeling this way??? Please tell me I'm not the only one......

you're not alone...i think that if things don't change quickly, FH will finally reach the same conclusion for us as well.

Me and FH moved to Charlotte 2 years ago to get away from the crazy house prices on long island. It is much more affordable down south and we love it here.

I have discussed this with FH and he doesn't want to because he loves being a FDNY. If we move out of state then he would have to go through another states training program.

Re: Anybody moving out of state to buy a house....
We're thinking of moving to either North or South Carolina. My brother and his wife & daughter just moved there this past February and they absolutely love it. I feel that I my FH and I will never be able to afford a house in LI although I wish we could live here.

Re: Anybody moving out of state to buy a house....
we talked about it, but realized that it only really benefits if you move out of state with your NY salary. otherwise, the cost of living and the rate of pay usually balance each other out so it would be just about the same thing. (if someone has had a past experience otherwise, please tell me so i can talk to FH!) i would love to be able to move to the carolinas with a $60k a year salary, but i don't think it will happen. and for me as a realtor, the housing prices based on my rate of commission work out to me actually making more money in NY.
i had a friend who was making $45k a year in NY. she recently moved to VA with her FH and for the SAME exact job, down there she's getting about $10/hr!

Re: Anybody moving out of state to buy a house....
that's why we haven't bought a house here- we want to move to florida
luckily for us my DH is in the mortgage business and he could do that any where- in FL he will pay less income tax - so what he makes here will increase
I have to find something else to do- I could work as a real eastate agent or some type of sales rep- or not really work to hard at all
we are going to decide with in the next 2 years for sure
you just have to be careful b/c my brother moved to florida with no work experince and he has struggled to fine a decent job- I feel like if you have a career already you are better off when you move

We live in NJ now, Bergen County to be exact. It's just as expensive as LI, so we will be moving after the wedding sometime. We don't want to be too far from family, and will probably wind up living in PA or CT.

Actually when I moved to NC, I got a job making $4,000 MORE than I was making in NY. I am a CPA. So It varies depending on what your career is.

Yeah, I've been looking for a teaching job down there and NC pays pretty good! And you would be raking in the cash down there, b/c they are building and selling new homes like crazy down there!!!!

We are moving to Florida also. For the price of a simple 3 bedroom house here we can build our own 4-5 bedroom with laundry room, den, LR, DR, office, garage, patio, deck and pool down there!

Re: Anybody moving out of state to buy a house....
We are moving out of Palm Bch County, FL to Washington state. The cost of housing here is just as expensive as on LI. Not sure where the other two ladies that are moving to FL are going to. Plus we hate it here. I've been here 16yrs and it's so incredibly boring plus the hurricanes are not worth it at all. Every year you have to sink a ton of money in your house to fix things that insurance will no longer cover. Wilma was a Cat. 1 and it peeled my roof right off. It has been a nightmare.

Re: Anybody moving out of state to buy a house....
I agree- florida isn't cheaper- but you do get more for your money- in terms of a nicer house
I am just looking for warm weather- I love the sun- I hate the cold
plus my Dad and brother live down there
Hurincanes stink- but ice storms an snow storms- and even hurricans can damage your home in NY as well
every place has some time of natual disater- or plus NY is a terrosit target- there is no place 100% perfect

We own a house and the mortgage is killing us. Thinking seriously about Charlotte in a year or two.

Re: Anybody moving out of state to buy a house....
I'm so glad you started this post b/c I was just talking to FH about this the other day. We both grew up here and would love to have our family here but in order to have a good quality of life, we need to be making alot more $$ - and soon! We hoping in a couple of years to sell our co0op and move to FL.
