To be honest with you, I never even thought of inviting my minister to the ceremony.

I didn't. He was just some guy that I paid to do the ceremony. I don't think there's any reason to invite him. If it's a personal friend then that's a different story.

I'm not. We don't know him at all and it would be weird. We'll invite him to the rehearsal dinner but not the wedding reception.

If you do not know him personally, then it is not necessary

We have invited the priest that is marrying us to our wedding and he is coming, he's a family friend of FH's so we know him personally.

Re: anybody NOT inviting their officiant to wedding??
I am having a mass at my childhood church but am not familiar with the priests there anymore. I did not invite the priest who is marrying us. I met with him once and won't be meeting him again until the rehearsal dinner.
I am contemplating on tipping him also. I am paying the church $300 to use the church. Not sure if he gets a portion of this money. My brother told me I should tip him and FH's parents told me they did not tip the priest at their daughters wedding. I am lost with this. I do however plan on tipping the alter boys/girls.

i am not. we are having a retired judge marry us and we never knew him before, so it doesn't make sense to invite him.

I would give a little something in a separate envelope to the priest. That money that they charge you when you go to sign up for your wedding day usually goes straight to the rectory, think of that money paying for overhead not for services rendered. Parish priests are usually paid a fixed salary (usually just enough to cover their living expenses) and usually do not get bonus money fromt he rectory for doing weddings.

nope...we didn't. it was just an officiant we hired---so we weren't close enough to invite them. besides i knew she would probably have another wedding to go to

How much would you recommend to tip them? $100 or less? I am really not sure what I should tip.

We are inviting our priest to the Reception. We would like him to say grace before the dinner.

Our best man is tipping the altar servers and we are giving our priest $100.

Wow I am in the minority her. I did invite our Pasteur. I felt I should. I hope that wasn't a breach of etiquette.

Re: anybody NOT inviting their officiant to wedding??
The only reason I did was because she was traveling so far. She ended up just staying for the CH and leaving after that which was fine because I did not have to pay for an extra body.
