I just sold an item on Ebay and the gentleman who purchased it wants to come and pick it up even though S&H was included in my bid price (he lives in Huntington).
For those who sell things on Ebay, have you ever had anyone request to pick it up? If so, what did you do? Did you ship it anyway? Or is this an odd request even though he lives in the area?

If you feel uncomfortable, ship it & tell him you will be away.

the only things ive heard being picked up are cars bought off Ebay ! I agree lie and say you will be away!

FI bought a motorcycle part on ebay and since the guy worked in Manhattan FI and the guy met at a mutual place in the city and FI paid him right there.
maybe you can have the person meet you in front of a store or something.

I sent the guy an email stating that I would prefer to ship it or like Kevin said, have him come and get it from him at work.
The item was an Empeg Car Player. The guy paid right away.

LOL! Ewww...glad 'Kevi Boy' will be meeting him and not me.
I 'researched' the guy. (I thought the request to pick it up was odd.) He's a lawyer and I think he drives a Mercedes CLK320. Gotta' love the internet!!!!

I buy & sell on ebay and I have heard of people wanting to pick things up all the time. But only if they are heavy items and they are in your area. Someone might even do a search for example of people selling bicycles on Long Island....rather than have you ship them a bicycle, they would rather save that cost and get it. Is it something that you can easily mail and shipping is inexpensive? If so, I would not let them pick it up - that sounds odd but if it's saving them big money, I'd definitely let them pick it up. If you are not comfortable though, just say no. You shouldnt do it if you feel strange with it, I just wanted to let you know that it's not an unusual request. HTH

Elizabeth, The box is only 12x12 and shipping was included in the bid price. It's not like he has to pay extra. I could see if it was a rather large or expensive item, but it's not. And it would most likely take a day to get to him if I shipped it Priority.
We'll see what he says when he replies to my email.
