Anyone

still live at home and real close to their family who is nervous about moving out/on?

How are you dealing?

Those who have already dealt, how did you do it?

Re: Anyone

I live at home still. I am close to my family but am very ready to get out! The only reason I stayed home so long was to save money since my mom lets me live here rent free. I get 2 bedrooms but have to share a bathroom with my brother (YUK). All I have to pay for is food and cable modem. It really helped us save because if we were renting there is no way we would be able to put away as much money as we have been for the past 2 years. My mom is very upset though that I am leaving. I wonder what will happen when I actually move out of state

Re: Anyone

I left my father and stepmothers home on some VERY bad circumstances so we didn't talk much for a few months. I never went back either....I was basically 'pushed' out by my stepmother....FM for details.

it was hard because I missed my dad and my sister and I felt out of the loop with what was going on with the family and all...

I still feel out of the loop now but from what I'm told, the situation there is not good..very tense and no one really talks to each other anymore. I was glad I left when I did....

I still live at home and I'm a little nervous about moving out. We're not moving far, and I know that I am ready for the change.

Re: Anyone

I have been out on my own for awhile, over 10 years now. I probably would have stayed at home longer but my parents had sold their house, I started working full time, so it just made sense. I had a totally flakey boyfriend at the time (who I didn't move in with at first) and I thought I would love the 'living single' life style. I hated it , though, and within 6 mos. moved in with the flake because I was so lonely (pathetic, I know!) I didn't know how to be alone or without my parents.

Leaving home back then was one of the hardest things I had to do. I am ridiculously close with my parents, esp. my Dad (still am). We are 'best buds' and I will admit that I am a total Daddy's Girl. I didn't know how to truly take care of myself at first since my Dad did everything for me. I was really homesick for quite some time. And I only lived about 15 minutes away!!

Subsequently I got used to living alone -- its the best thing I ever did for myself. It helped me to stand on my own two feet. Recently living with FH has been just great, thank goodness we are really compatible

But trust me I still miss Dad sometimes .... which is why I still only live 1/2 hour away from them! Hard to break those ties completely when you are so close, I guess

Re: Anyone

I still live at home and so does Danielle. I have the whole second floor of my parents house. It is like an apartment. I pay rent, though...and Cable. I also buy food and cook everyonce in a while.

Danielle has her own room and doesnt have to pay rent. She is lucky.

We are still both able to save money, and the apartment we are moving into is very low in rent each month, so we got lucky....Hopefully within 3 years we will have enough for a deposit on a house....As long as the prices dont go any higher than they are now.

Re: Anyone

i moved out at age 25 when i got engaged to my DH. i was so excited about it that at first it was great and then all of a sudden out of no where, i would be homesick! sometimes even now at the weirdest times i will miss my family. but i just told myself - you had to do it at some point and it is an adjustment and you will get over it. don't worry!

Re: Anyone

I do.
I will miss my brother the most I think, we've gotten pretty close over the years. What makes it worse is I really would like to move down to Florida. Cost of living, houses, etc is rediculous on LI. But I'd miss my family so much. (even the extended family that moved out long ago)

Re: Anyone

I'm already on my own, but Fh isn't. He lived alone for a while , but had to move home , long story, I won't bore you with it , but for the year he lived in an apt he saw his parents once a week & in the beginning his mother said she missed him because she didn't see him any more.

I am afraid we are going to have to go through that all over again.
although he is sort of easing into it, since he only eats dinner with them once a week & other than that just sees them weekend mornings.

he'll probably keep up the weekly dinners, but I'm hoping we don't have to go over there all the time to make up for his moving out ( he is an only child)

I've been on my own for 5 years, and although I was miserable there I still miss my family sometimes, liek henwe spend holidays with Fh's family.
really just calling a lot & visiting when I miss them helps.
