Does anyone actually like their job, and make good money? I feel like there are hardly any jobs around here that pay well that I would want to do. I worked on Wall Street but hated it, and now I enjoy my job but I took a large pay cut to do what I do now (decent $, but let's put it this way--FI and I are not in the $140,000 and over category combined, and we both have Bachelor's and Master's degrees). So last week's post about how much couples make around here got me thinking....I feel like I should just suck it up to make big bucks, even if I won't necessarily ENJOY it...How does everyone else feel about it?

I HATE it most of the time....love the people though. I am so tired (and nervous) about working in the city. Plus I keep thinking 'it will get better' and it never does...so i need to make a change.

My DH LOVES LOVES LOVES his job and he makes above the $140,000 mark, he's a veternarian and he owns his own practice.
He is just one of those lucky people to have a real passion for his job.
I on the other hand am an attorney, and I am seriously questioning my career choice!!!!

I don't make $$$$$ money but for working 183 days a year I make a decent salary and I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE my job. I would never want to do anything else. Even though the bad days can be really bad and I work a lot more than 40 hours a week, I would NEVER EVER change careers. I was starting to think about going for my administration degree and changed my mind-- my kids matter more to me!

I started college in vet science but I couldn't stand euthanizing the animals! I was working in the small animal clinic at the vet school and there were so many people that did not want to commit the $ to helping their pets get well and would rather put them to sleep. It's an admirable job, and I love animals. I guess you can find negatives with any job. I was just hating EVERYTHING about mine today!

I understand your concerns about euthanasia, but you don't have to do anything you wouldn't want to. My husband NEVER euthanizes an animal just because the people WON'T spend the money on treatment that will work.
Instead, he asks the owners to sign over the animal to him and then he treats the animal at his cost and finds a home for it.; or if they don't agree to sign over he just won't euthanize and tell them to go elsewhere.
THere's was this one cat in particular that was 8 years old..he was urinating in the house and his owners wanted to put him down. My DH asked them to do bloodwork because it could be a UTI that is treatable. THey refused and wanted it euthanized. My DH talked them into signing the cat over...and wouldn't ya know...it was a treatable kidney infection! THe cat now has a new home and is healthy!
Euthanasia is never easy for him, sometimes he comes home very sad, but he only does it when an animal is really suffering.

That is really greatl of him. It's good to know that there are vets that take a stand, and work at their own expense to save animals when they can be saved. It is the love of animals that leads everyone into that field. It disgusts me how much animal abuse goes on.

Thank god my DH's practice/clients take very good care of their pets, he rarely sees abuse, if ever.
However, my DH does treat a lot of Save A Pet animals (animal rescue organization) and he sees a lot of neglected animals...but they're off to better lives when he's done spaying/neutring and 'fixing them up'.

Kathy you should be very proud of your DH and his ethics!! It is nice to see a vet that has a true LOVE of his patients!!!

I am so proud of him...that was the very first attraction, seeing how committed he is to his patients!
On our first date I waited over 2 hours for him to show...I called the hospital to see what was going on...he had a client come in after hours with a puppy that was torn apart by a huge dog. He stayed there stablizing the dog...I knew right then that this guy was a really wonderful, and I don't mind the long hours or being 'stood up', if he's helping an animal, it's worth it.

I love my career, a Customs Broker and I finally have found a company that I love. The money is pretty good, hours are great and I love the 3 weeks vacation.

Really like my job, $$ is average (not great, but pretty good), benefits are fantastic, but the commute is killing me.

........hmmmmmmm, not so easy to answer....yes i like my job(chef) but bad money, now rainemama and i live in maine were the rents are cheaper(600.00month) 2 bedroom, but my income sucks.but much less crime or other problems, i grew up in long island and why would anyonw want to live with a house next to the next one.....the only reason we live her is for the life syle for the little one and us....just my thought...

i dont like my job because i feel like i'm just doing random work thats not really satisfying me. i have no passion for it. and the money sucks too. i cant wait to start my own business.
