Does anyone actually like their job, and make good money? I feel like there are hardly any jobs around here that pay well that I would want to do. I worked on Wall Street but hated it, and now I enjoy my job but I took a large pay cut to do what I do now (decent $, but let's put it this way--FI and I are not in the $140,000 and over category combined, and we both have Bachelor's and Master's degrees). So last week's post about how much couples make around here got me thinking....I feel like I should just suck it up to make big bucks, even if I won't necessarily ENJOY it...How does everyone else feel about it?

I wouldn't say I LOVE my job, but it's worth it for me. What are you doing now? I am in finance...which ultimately is boring. However, I work for an advertising agency which makes the number-crunching part a little better. It's not just about the numbers, I can actually relate them to the ads you see in magazines, TV and radio. And the people I work with are great...they're fun, much more than when I worked on Wall Street. Personally, that makes it better for me. And the pay was much much better too.

My fulltime job treats me VERY well. I can't complain. DJing at Sutton Place makes it even better.
So I guess I'm doing well. I also love my job(s). I just wished my FW was doing well too (or at least better than she is currently)... and then we would be way over the 140k mark. I guess in due time hopefully. She is waiting for a better position to open up in her company so we'll see.

I love my job now at Verizon. I am an Adm. Asst. and make good $. I got offered a management job for $35,000 more than what I make now and didn't take it cause I knew I wouldn't like it. Sometimes its not about the money for me. I'd rather be happy at work.

Wierd topic for me today.... I am pouting about this exact thing ALL day! I like my job alot. The commute is a breeze, the people are so nice, I get free lunch everyday, I do nothing but surf the net all day BUT the money is REALLY bad. What do you choose? Money or happiness?

I guess that is what the issue is. $$$$ or happiness? I work in a college, in charge of the computer system and I do some advising too. I like it, the $ is decent, great benefits, very 9-5, easy commute, nice people. BUT, it seems like to have even a decent house on Long Island, and have extra money for vacationing or kids, we should each be making $70,000 or more. I shouldn't complain, it's just we aren't living as lavishly as I had always imagined. I guess that is it. I hated my last job so much and the hours were insane....

I chose happiness. Sometimes I even consider taking the other job but then I think of the consequences(sp?), stress, long hours, etc... To me I want to be happy when I get home.

Ok so from what I am reading, the question is money or happiness but the sick and depressing part is money makes happiness. Not emotionally but for example, I hate my apartment that I rent (actually I hate the landlords) and I want to own a home of my own. But it takes money...

In my experiences, happiness is more important. Where I am at right now is not that bad. The $ isnt great, but it isnt terrible either....I have been at jobs making more but I was nearly suicidal I was so miserable!

I know how you feel. Thats why we are planning on moving off of LI soon. I can make almost the same salary there and get as awesome house for 1/4 the price.

My personal saying lately is 'People live in NY to make the NY money, I havent yet seen a dime of it'.
Seriously I am getting ripped off beyond belief for the work I do here and for what? Free lunch? I would rather starve and get a nice paycheck! My boss would be seriously lost without me. It is just the 2 of us. He never knows how to do anything! There is only one way for an employer to show his/her appreciation... MONEY!

I know what you mean. Did anyone see the survey over on the parenting board about the salarys of their dh and being a sahm. The majority of the people's dh was over 100k!!!!!!!!!!!!! please tell me what do they do for a living? I feel like Im never going to be able to have children because we both will never be making enough!
I also do not like my job and Im not making good money either--- 2 good reasons to leave right!!

I know! I was dating a doctor before I met my FI, and when I told my boss I got engaged she said, 'You know, it is as easy to love and marry a rich man as a poor man...' (mind you, my FI is not POOR! Just not making dr. salary!)

I think it depends on what you want to do. People automatically assume having a management job you will be stressed out and burn out.. NOt always. I used to work at Verizon and I would never in a million years be a manager at there. They work people to death..at least at the location I was.
However I love where I work now. I come in at 10 and I can work from home. The people are great and so far so good for me. I think it just depends on so many things.
For me I refuse to work more than 40 hours a week on a consistent basis. I have a husband to go home to for me that makes me happy.

I love what I do, make a nice salary but some days do not like the people I work for or with..... but I to the conclusion a long time ago that I am doing the part of my job that I love the most so I can overlook them being jack a**es!!

I make ‘just enough’ and I ‘like’ my job.
Jim LOVES, LOVES, LOVES his job. I hate that he gets bad dittly squat for it. He makes LESS than I do and he has the degree for crying out loud. But he’s happy. I can’t take that from him.
I don’t mind making ‘just enough’ and ‘liking’ my job. I think LOVING your job and making lots of money and still having the quality of life you want is a rarity.
I like that I don’t ‘have’ to work late hours unless I want to. I don’t ‘have’ to be on call. Then again a friend of mine who works 12 hours days and is on call makes triple digits. He loves his job but he has no social life.
There’s always a trade. I look for the middle ground.
