Anyone add details to their dress? When did you have your first fitting?

My dress is very simple and classic, but I was thinking I might want to add something special to make it more my own. I was thinking of adding buttons down the back or trim along the hem to match the waistline. Can I have this done? I got my dress from Bridal Reflections in Massapequa and I ordered it in July but I havent heard from them about it. Is this normal? The wedding is in October. When do you usually go for your first fitting? When should I tell them I want to make some detail changes? Help! I'm nervous!

I am going to add some beading to my dress, i am having a seamstress so it instead of the bridal shop i got it at. She said she didn't need much notice she would just go in teh city and pick up the beading closer to my wedding so she could add it.
