I am so excited for my upcoming honeymoon, but I know I'll have to get my butt on a plane, so that's making me very nervous! As long as there is no turbulence or air pockets I'm OK, but this will be my longest flight (about 6.5 hours!) and I'm freaking out about it! God forbid there is bad weather, I think I'll have a panic attack before I even get to the airport Do you think I should go to the doctor and ask for a prescription to calm my nerves... or just try to 'be strong and relax'??? Honestly, I know that statistically I am safer in the air than in my car, but that really doesn't help!

I HATE to fly!!!!!!!!! I do it because how else are you going to get anywhere. But I am afraid of heights and planes and flying I usually have a couple of drinks beforehand to calm the nerves a bit. It helps a little, but I still have little panic attacks through the whole thing. Try the dr. I am sure they must have something you can take before you go.

Re: Anyone afraid of flying?
I am terrified to fly!
Everytime we go on a trip, I freak out way beforehand and even on the way to the airport. I get sick to my stomach and vomit. My nerves just take over. I can't even make it to the airport without pulling to the side of the road at least once. And forget sleeping the night before. Last time I flew, I went to Jamaica, and I took a 1/2 zanax the night before to help me sleep, and a 1/2 before we left for the airport. So basically I was a zombie for the whole thing and slept most of the time. Obviously it doesn't take much to put me out. I suggest going to the doctor and getting a prescription for something to calm you down. It definately will help you. Good Luck!

I am terrified and can't even tell you how Ambien has changed my life! I take it as soon as they announce boarding and am out by the time we take off. I had one too many panic attacks and cannot handle turbulance without completely freaking out.
I did try Xanex for a while but that didn't really work to calm me down. I prefer to be dead asleep!

I am also afraid but the way I see it is that I will never travel the world if I don't my butt on the plain.

Re: Anyone afraid of flying?
I told FH I would sooner paddle a canoe for our honeymoon than step on a plane. He agreed. But my mother has talked me into sedating myself instead My experiences on airplanes have been TERRIBLE! So I'm not really looking forward to ever flying again.

Re: Anyone afraid of flying?
I LOVE to fly. I love sitting by the window and watching us take off and land. Oh how I love to fly.
My mom on the other hand hates to fly. She is the worst person I have ever seen on a plane. The last flight we took she went to the doctor and got a prescription and it helped very very very well. It was a blessing.
Definatly talk to your doctor. He or She can give you a prescription to help you.

My FH and I just took a long plane ride, and he took Xanax. It didn't really work. I suggest getting Ambien so you are out coled, but make sure someone can look out for you.

Re: Anyone afraid of flying?
i would say a sedative couldnt hurt
I dont use planes anymore cause the places I go I have fun driving to, and stopping on the way(since thats what i did in my childhood)... luckily fiance cant stand planes so were compatable on that...
also without realizing it... on day FI got into a discussion with his parents about why he thinks planes are better(sure less accidents than cars but if you have an accident most likely you'll die in crash so he'd rather be in control)... anyways hes saying this to his parents completely forgeting that THEY are going on an airplane the next day to FL..

Re: Anyone afraid of flying?
I LOVE to fly but FH doesn't like to. He's even especially afraid to fly over water. We usually fly to Vegas or California for trips because of it. I wanted to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon but that trip is too long over water so we're going to Aruba instead because the trip is shorter. That's fine by me though because I've already been to Aruba and I just LOVED it.

Re: Anyone afraid of flying?
I actually love to fly---me and FH fight over the window seat (anyone ever see Wedding Singer? ). The only time I was a little nervous was when we went to Hawaii since it's such a long flight. I took a Xanax and was out almost the entire trip

I'm not really afraid to fly, however, we are coming back from Hawaii on Sept 11th so that makes me a bit nervous

GET A PRESCRIPTION FH is a bad flyer, and I wanted to kill him when we went to England & hours of torture & it was an easy flight. Luckily I was a walking pharmacy on the way home..... we stopped in amsterdam
