Help! I bought my dress at Kleinfelds ata final sale, so i had to bring my dress home with me. My problem however is that my wedding isnt for another 17months. how to i care for the dress in the mean time? I got 5 different responces from them over there each including using a white cotton sheet. soem said to hang, some said to lay flat, some said to keep in a box some said in the garment bag. some said under the bed. I just want my dress to stay nice please help me.

I have no Idea, maybe call a dry cleaner? They might know what to do. Good Luck though. Are you plannign on hiding it from the FH all that time?

Well if you put it in a box i think it would get wrinkled...And some people say to lay it flat, but where can you lay it flat and keep it like that for 17 months...I would say to hang it up in a closet and keep it in the bag or whatever it came in.

Did you have alterations made yet? If not, why not leaving it in the bag, in your closet like Denise said and then have alterations made closer to the day of your wedding.

Well, I keep getting told it's bad luck for FH to even see a pic of it, but I'm not sure that when it comes the time that I found my dress that I'll be able to keep it from him. I feel that it is something so exciting that I would like to share the excitement with him. I guess it is all in your own preference. I wouldn't worry about 'bad luck'

i wouldnt let him see it....you can share your excitement with him by just telling him you got it, i know its prob so hard not to show hum but it will make that day that much more exciting! i dont even want to tell my FH the TYPE of dresses that i like, hehe....i dont want him to say he dosnt like a certain style b/c they have no idea what it looks like till they see it on you! anyway, this is just my opinion, everyone does things differently, so do what feels best for you.

I had to take my dress home too because I bought it from David's and their dresses you have to buy off the rack. The lady there told us to wrap it in a white cotton sheet and put it in the garment bag and hang it up. So it is like that and hanging up in my parents' closet!
HTH!

i think the best way is to hang it up in a cotton sheet somewhere but every month or so take it out and let is 'air out' for a few hours so it doesnt get musty
as for bad luck - i dont believe it is bad luck for him to see it but i wont even DESCRIBE my dress to FH - lol my family jokes around about my big purple dress with loong sleeves and polka dots just to throw him off - i dont want him to know a single detail about it! his mom mentioned something about crystals being on it the other day and i almost burst into tears lol
no such thing as bad luck

keep it in a dark place. like with a sheet over it or in a garmet bag. you don't want it to get discolored from the sun. Thats what I was told. And you can hang it up. Just before the wedding you should have it cleaned.
