Anyone been to a NYC Teacher Fair?

I've got a ticket to go to the NYC Teacher Fair on the 28th, I was wondering if anyone has been to one before...what was it like? Is it even worth going? Can you actually get a job from a school at it?
Thanks!

I have never been to one, however I do know of a few people who got jobs right on the spot! Good luck

I'm going on Wednesday too!! It is worth it. You can get hired right there on the spot!! I went to one last year and I went to the one in the bronx last month. They sit you down and talk to you in a main room, then they let you go into another room where there are tables set up with different districts and principals. They will ask you questions and for your resume and if they like you and want to hire you they will give you a letter which will guarentee you a job in that district for the school year!!

DH got his job that way. Just wen to the fair - they interviewed him and he got a job. It was the easiest thing in the world.

This is not going to sound very good, but what does the ticket look like?? You see, I am unable to receive one because I have worked for the BOE before and this is supposed to be for new teachers, BUT i dont think its fair to not let me into the job fair and prevent me from possibly getting a job simply because I have experience. So what is the probability of duplicating a ticket???

OR perhaps, has anyone gotten a ticket they do not plan to use???

The tickets are orange and have a sticker on the front with your name, SS#, content area and I think that's about it, I'm at work today so I'm going from memory

I have been and thought they were absolutely AWFUL.....They herd you into this room that contains a bunch of schools, you can hardly move around and to be honest, some people are so hungry for a job that they push and shove pass you. I will never go to one again. Just out of curiousty, where is this one?

my sister is a teacher, but she went to one while she was working as an assistant, and ended up with an art teacher position from it a month later - I guess it varies, but it sounds like a good opportunity if anything! Good luck to you :)

Re: Anyone been to a NYC Teacher Fair?

No you had to sign up for it and they have to send you an invite, I'm pretty sure you can't just show up

Actually, I think you might be able to just show up. I would call tomorrow and ask though. I remember when I went to the job fair in the bronx last month, there were people there that did not have a card and they made them wait and then brought them into another room. Definitely call and ask if you can go. Its worth a try!!

Re: Anyone been to a NYC Teacher Fair?

OK, I just read the e-mail they sent me and it says clearly by invitation only, but it also says if you did not receive a card then your name is on a master list and you have to go check in at the master list when you get there. So maybe if you call tomorrow they can add you to the master list and you'll just have to check in!! Good Luck!!
