Anyone been to a sweet 16 lately?

Just wondering what kind of gifts to give... its at a catering hall in Howard Beach and the invitation told us to wear black and/or white.

Do they still give jewelry or should I just stick with money or a gift card somewhere?

I would stay away from the jewelry - all girls have different tastes, and what they like at 16 won't necessarily be the same when they're 26.

for my sweet 16, someone gave me a 'day of beauty' at a local salon. It was really just a gift certificate for a haircut, color, mani/pedi, and makeup application. That REALLY made me feel like a princess!

I think it depends how well you know the person. I got my couisn jewelery but I new she was on a rose gold kick.

I feel weird giving a 16 year old a large sum of monry. maybe a gift card or a savings bond ( I'm such a nerd) woudl be better.

I gave my sister a gift certificate to Sephora and she loved it...I put it in a new cosmetic bag I bought for her with a few other little things..
