I told my sister I got a contract from starlight express last night and I told her how much and she told me I was crazy lol even though she says shes never been to a wedding with them where everyone didnt dance all night.. anyway she told me to cut out the extras that arent needed. and she told me to cut out the lights.. I thought she was crazy but she insits it looks much classier when you dont have it? what do u guys think?

Re: Anyone been to a wedding with no dj lights?
I personally like the lights. I'm actually going to get the lights from Floral Terrace and not the DJ. FT has their own that are already built in that you can use (but you have to pay for). Maybe Sand Castle has this..You should ask.
I'm also paying a lot for my DJ I realized it when the other brides on here posted what they were paying. But there's really nothing I can do now. Plus, I really like the DJ we chose.

Re: Anyone been to a wedding with no dj lights?
I've seen DJs with and without lights. Personally, I don't think it makes a difference as long as the Dj plays good music. I'm having a band and I've opted not have the the glow sticks, sunglasses, leis, etc... It's not that I don't want to spend the money, I just think it takes a touch of class away, but that's just my personal opinion. By the way, my FH could give a sh*t less either way. lol!

My sister also said you dont want to look like a couple of kids getting married you want it to be classy.. I was like we are a bunch of kids so what?! the only reason i am torn is bc I thought everyone used the lights and dont think i've ever been to a wedding that didnt have them.. just dont want to look cheap or silly if I dont get them :)

Re: Anyone been to a wedding with no dj lights?
Well I don't think you NEED the lights at all...actually FH and I were debating this tonight when we booked our DJ (Vinny from High Voltage).. it just depends on where your reception is, what kind of 'party' you are having, and your own personal style.
I Like the lights ... but honestly the music is most important to me

I just want to clarify..I DON'T think you need them. I agree with the other girls, the music played is the most important. I don't think you'll look cheap or silly not using them. But personally I like the lights, so that's why we chose to use them.

I would have to agree with your sister on this. When dj's use lights at a wedding it gives the party more of a club atmosphere. If that is what your looking for than get the lights. Otherwise I wouldn't feel bad about not having them.

I personally do not like lights at all. I feel it takes away from the elegance of a wedding. But this is JMO!!!!! But if you want them then go for it. It's your wedding! Good Luck!

Re: Anyone been to a wedding with no dj lights?
My sister did not do the intelligent light show but she did have some type of digital/computerized light show in which you could hardly see the lights. she also opted not to do the whole favor thing, but that was just her style since her wedding was very laid back, classy and elegant. but you wanna know something?... Everyone was asking about the favors (I think they were a little disappointed that there weren't any) I personally like the lights and plan on using them but then again I kinda do want my wedding to be fun and a little crazy and again this is my style. I think most of our guests are really looking forward to a big party and sometimes we get too caught up in things maybe looking tacky, or not elegant enough but honestly most guest love just letting loose and having a wild time (hey you never know) so just go with what you want. Maybe not having lights is your sister's style but not yours and remember IT'S YOUR WEDDING, SO DO WHATEVER THE HECK YOU WANT GIRL, IF YOU WANT FIRECRACKER COMING OUT FROM YOUR VEIL THEN GO AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
p.s.-did you sign the contract already

we signed contract but didnt leave a deposit.. basically we wanted everything out in writing first. he told us to bring him X amount by next month to make it valid.

Re: Anyone been to a wedding with no dj lights?
oh!, that's good, like that you can maybe research a couple of more DJ's and see what kind of prices they give you. But if you really want to stick with this one then go for it unless they are truly out of your budget, then really look elsewhere. One thing is getting everything we have dreamed of but another is being realistic with ourselves and our budget you get me! Best of luck and tell us what you decide to do. Besides I'm pretty sure other dj's will probably offer you the same package (and are probably just as good) for a lower price

Re: Anyone been to a wedding with no dj lights?
We actually got the light show and instead of doing the favors our dj hands out silk red roses that light up. He said that they had it out to all the ladies when they do the first slow dance. I just thought it was a little classier than the sun glasses and straw hats. JMO PS. From what ever one is telling us we are paying a small fortune. But we do have a 3 piece jazz band to perform at the cocktail hour.

I think my hall has some extra 'dance style' lighting already built in.

I personally do NOT like the lights. And considering we are getting married in an old mansion, it really doesn't go well with the ambiance. But some people do like them, it's a matter of personal preference.

My thoughts exactly! I've never been a fan of the DJ light shows at weddings. I feel this belongs more in a club...but that's JMO and everyone is different. It's your wedding and you should do what you want.
