My Grandmother and Aunt went about 10 years ago. My Mom has been trying to go for years herself. I know they said it was beautiful there and you have to go through Italy or England to get there. My Aunt and Grandmother spent I think a week in Italy before going to Malta. I know the rates generally go down in September and the weather is still good at that time. Perhaps now with the economy, you can get good deals anytime, but I'm not sure. Sorry I could not be more help.
P. S. - Are you Maltese? My Grandmother was not born there, but my great-grandparents were.

Malta is absolutely gorgeous! You can take a ferry over to Sicily for a few days while you are there! Malta is very historical and there is actually a lot of things to do there! I went for 2 1/2 weeks, (my friend is from there) and I had a great time! FM for more info! Valetta was my favorite town!!
