Anyone been to Sandals in Jamaica?

Anyone been to Sandals in Jamaica?

Hey ladies! I was wondering if anyone has been to sandals in jamaica and could recommend which resort to stay in. We wanted to be close to the excursions and when I talked to someone at sandals they said to either stay at Grande Ocho rios or Dunn River. We are on a slight budget and Grande Ocho Rios is more affordable. However, the sandals guy said that Dunn River is nicer. Any advice would be great. Also, any recommendations for other all-inclusive places in Jamaica? Thanks!!

I've been to Sandals Whitehouse and it was absolutely beautiful, but not near excursions- all were at least an hour away.

I think the Dunn's River is nicer than the Grand Ocho Rios, but I could be wrong.

I know Sandals Negril is a really nice one too, and Negril has several excursions right near the place.

I wouldn't recommend Sandals Montego Bay as a honeymoon, but I've been there also and it was fun and had a nice staff. A little more run-down than others.

My fiance and I actually just got back from Sandal's Dunn's River. Its funny because on the last night of our vacation I told him that I would have been upset if this had been our honeymoon. Don't get me wrong the resort was very pretty, all honeymooners or married couples and the food was pretty good but there seemed to be an underlined 'party' atmosphere. People acting stupid drunk from time to time, people who were just loud in general. We meet another couple, the husband was a travel agent, and they said that this was the loudest Sandal's they had ever been too. Me and my FH aren't into that kind of atmosphere, we're into more of a quiet -romantic setting, but for a vacation it was fine but like I said I would not have been happy if that was my honeymoon. We were told Whitehouse and Negril are quieter. Also there isn't a very big beach, I'm not sure if that is a factor for you but I'd rather lay on the beach then the pool and at times you feel a little crowded.

wow... i was just talking to my FH about Jamaica...
We were looking into the sandals honeymoon...

now i'm really having second thoughts...

We went to DR (puerto plata) for a vacation about 2 years ago and LOVED it...

We always said we wanted to go back, and we forfeited a vacation this year to save a little extra cash for this wedding and now the honeymoon deadline is upon us and now we're at a lost as to where to go...

jamaica, st lucia, or costa rica...
decissions, decissions

Just to give you a little heads up..... we were orignally booked at sandals whitehouse and were so excited but then they are now closed for 6 months or so for some emergency renovations. We got stuck and they put us at Sandals Dunns River. I am regretting it now i think. =o(

I haven't heard great things about Jamaica. We actually just booked Sandals Grande in St. Lucia today! All water sports are there....even scuba diving. You just have to pay the $70/person to be taught and get your license for scuba diving. After that you can go every day if you want. Sounds awesome!

Sandals Whitehouse is AMAZING! We just got back and if you choose to stay there you will NOT regret it! It will be closed until December, but if you're getting married after that, you should go!

Thanks for all the advice! I am really not sure where we should go. We are waiting to go on our honeymoon until christmas time and that is the most expensive time of year to go anywhere! I think we might wait until Febuary break (school calander) to go on our honeymoon.

We are both pretty open to where we want to go, I just wanted to go somewhere that had a lot of excurisions and I saw on the travel channel that there were really awesome water falls to climb.

Just a head's up -February break is a very expensive time to go away also. We looked at Sandals Antigua for Feb and March (the school breaks) and the Feb. break was twice as much money!!! So frustrating.....but we're going in March instead.

ughhh I know! But febuary is slightly cheaper then Dec. I just don't want to wait until the summer to take our honeymoon. :(

Also anyone who hasn't booked yet and is thinking about it I would stay away from Air Jamaica. They were 2 hours delayed leaving JFK and 3 hours leaving Montego. They have the best direct rates but we lost about a day because our late arrival. (since is it an hour and a half away from the airport - didnt arrive till 8:30 or so) I would never fly with this airline again - there we no explanations as to why they were late or any announcements in the airport. The departure time just kept moving back. I would spend the extra money for Jet Blue and not be stressed and aggravated.
