We were thinking about blocking rooms in two hotels because one hotel is a lot more expensive than the other.

Re: Anyone blocking rooms at more than 1 hotel?
Yes, we are blocking rooms at two hotels. One is more of a less expensive hotel, yet very nice and we also are blocking in one a bit more expensive, I think it gives people options. Not sure if it is the norm.....

We blocked at 3 hotels: Melville Marriott, Hampton Inn Commack, and Best Western Woodbury. We had a lot of OOT guests, and if you want to block more than 20 rooms at places like the Marriott you have to guarantee. Plus, different hotels had different price ranges and amenities (e.g., bfast included or not...)

Re: Anyone blocking rooms at more than 1 hotel?
we looked into it then chose not to because both places told us that if we didn't get the 10 we guranteed than our guests couldn't get the discounted block rate. we have a lot of oot guests (probably 20 rooms or so) but we were afraid what if we had less than 10 at one of the places? then all our guests (or us) would have to pay the differential. i didn't want to worry about it.
however, most of the oot weddings i have been to i have been given the option of more than one place.

I am, Fox Hollow is asking $199 we are def staying there and I feel this is a lot to ask of our guests. So I also did the Huntington Hilton, to leave it up to them to decide if they want to stay closer and pay the extra $$ or drive 15 minutes and save a few $$$

We blocked 2 in order to give our guests a choice.

We did 2 hotels for the same reason -- one more expensive and one less expensive. The less expensive one is a Best Western and though the rates are better, they aren't exactly the lowest either.

We blocked rooms at the Fox Hollow (where we are staying), the Best Western and the Fairfield Inn.

Re: Anyone blocking rooms at more than 1 hotel?
We didn't stay at the same hotel as our guests, although the Marriott offered us a suite at a discounted rate. The Best Western was about $110/night, and included breakfast. Re: the post above about not getting the discounted rate if you don't have enough people booked there - we didn't encounter that at all, so I guess different hotels have different policies. We just had to block a certain number of rooms to get the good price, and if we wanted over 20 we would have had to give a credit card guarantee (which we didn't want to do, hence the multiple hotels...).
