Anyone book a DJ and wish they got a band?

This is for those who are already married as well as those who are still planning.

Newleyweds - Did you regret having a DJ even if they did a great job?
's to be - Are you regreting booking a DJ because you would have rather spent the money on a band?

I am torn - what we want for the DJ is going to run us at least $3500 and I was offered a great band for my CH and my 4 hour reception for $4500 for my date. I feel like $1000 in the whole scheme of things really isn't that big of a deal. Any opinions?

I had a band and LOVED them, however if you are debating, maybe you can get a DJ that has the 'band' additions, like a drummer- or singer- or some sort of live music... Long Island Sound does it

I had a band and LOVED them, however if you are debating, maybe you can get a DJ that has the 'band' additions, like a drummer- or singer- or some sort of live music... Long Island Sound does it

That's what we have been doing. If we add the calypso band to the CH and the drummer and/or singer to the DJ it ends up bringing the price up to $3500+ everywhere we go! Its just too much for me to spend on someone who is going to be playing CDs all night and I can get an excellent band for an excellent price (or so i think)!

my band was heart and soul...see my review!

I recommend them

as for DJs-
like I said, I really liked Long Island Sound and if we went with a DJ we would have chosen them

Yes, I totally wish I had booked a band. My FH insisted on a DJ though but we have additions to it (percussionist, sax, etc.) If I could have my way, there would be a band.

ETA: By the way, what band gave you a price of $4500? That is by far the least expensive I've seen!

I would MUCH rather have a band - I feel like it's so much more fun to have live music. Especially for the older crowd as well - even if they don't like the music or can't dance b/c of mobility problems at least they have something to look at - aside from dancing people...

Budget permitting we're gonna try and book a band that comes with a DJ...

It was alive n kickin. I saw them at a show a few weeks ago and they were great! I really liked their show and he called me up as we were starting our music search and my date only works for them because of where my RH is, I think. They play during the day every 4th of July down at a place right near my RH so they willl be in the area so he said they can work with me!!

I booked a DJ and a MC. I would have loved to book a band but the bands i wanted would have cost $8,000+. Also, FH's parents are paying for the music and I couldn't ask them to pay that much. I felt awkward just asking them to pay $3,600. Just to let you know, for that amount (dj) of money, I am getting more than a dj & mc. I also am getting a photo montage and zap shots.

Bravura is the DJ we're looking at. FH knows Tony from back in the day so he wants to work with him, but I kind of want a band...I may have to let him win this one. Were they very negotiable?
