What charity are you going to make the donation to?
Are you going to give your guests anything in addition to the donation? Like a CD or something?
We had a couple ideas for charities, but aren't sure if that's what we want to do or not ....

We're going to--we weren't going to have a favor at all, but I was trying to think of a way to honor my fiance's mother, who died on Thanksgiving, without making it too morbid. She will be mentioned briefly during the ceremony, but I think we're going to give a donation to a breast cancer charity and then put a mention in the program. Such as, 'In lieu of favors, a donation has been made in honor of FMiL to the Something Something Breast Cancer charity.' She died of breast cancer, obviously. She had inflammatory breast cancer, which is a particularly bad kind--it still has a very low survival rate--and we want to support research or a foundation specifically for that type. We're not going to put a scroll or something at each plate, I think the mention in the program is enough.

we donated to the lance armstrong cancer society in honor of my dad who is a cancer survivor, and several people in DHs family who had cancer. we gave each guest a little ' gift'- it was a small tin of mints and a yellow ' livestrong' bracelet wrapped up in tulle, and then a tag tied to it saying ' to honor our loved ones affected by cancer, a donation has been made to the lance armstrong cancer foundation' i just have to say that everyone LOVED it!! we got so many compliments on it, and some of the guests are still wearing the bracelets even 1 1/2 years later! you can't say that about many other favors... and i felt really good that the money i spend went to a good cause..

We are doing a donation to the Autism Society. I am making up little cards and attaching the autism awareness bracelet to them...
we donated to the USO... I made up a little card and ahd 'support our troops' bracelets at each plate...

I volunteer at an animal shelter, so we're doing a donation there instead of favors. We're going to do a scroll at each place, explaining the mission of the shelter and how the donation will be used. I'm also having a picture of various shelter dogs as the table numbers, so the scroll will have a little paragraph about the dog and where he/she is now!

Amiercan Cancer Society in memory of FH's mom and so many other people we've lost to the disease.
We are not doing anything else... in my opinion, 99.9% of the time the favors end up in the junk drawer or thrown out.... and i didn't find anything that i think people would really want anyway, so why waste the money....JMO
