If so, where are you putting the basket? I don't want to leave it in the bathroom. I thought about in the room next to the guestbook, but then only the first couple of people would get it. Any ideas?

We had the hall put them right outside the door of our room on the same table with the polaroid guest book. they were snatched in minutes .

Originally my hall was supposed to have 1 other wedding the day of mine. We would have to share a bathroom so I intended on having 2 guys come around holding the baskets for all the female guests. ( 1 basket/person on each side of the room) 2 weeks before the wedding I found out the other person canceled their wedding so I was able to put them in the bathrooms - IMHO if you are going to do something like the slipper basket you should have at least enough for every female at the wedding.

1 for every female would be nice, but I know FH will not go for that. I'm looking at having maybe 200 - 250 guests (Gosh I hope that is all) so I wanted around 50 -80 slippers if I can find them for $1 and under.
Did every female take a slipper?

Well not EVERYONE but very close to everyone did!!! And some people even took 2!! If thats the case and you are having that many people but arent going to supply enough for everyone then I wouldn't bother doing it. Its really not fair to the guests who dont get one. If I was at a wedding and saw 85 ladies walking around with these slippers but there wasnt enough for me I would feel bad. Its kind of similar if you go to a wedding and 75 % of the people get a favor and the rest dont If you are having 200 people 100 of those will be female. I just dont see how you can put out only enough slippers for half that amount. Sorry if this is coming across as being mean I don't want it to. I am just being honest. If you can't afford it then don't do it. No one will miss it b/c 99.9% of people never even heard of the idea. Im actually the one who introduced the idea to these boards. I can't believe how popular it became!

I just wanted to add Honestly if you really think about it the difference between buying 80 pairs (like you said your FH is willing to do) and buying 125 pairs so there is enough for everyone is only $45 if you get them for $1.00 each. even less if you get them cheaper then that. I rather spend the extra $40 bucks and make sure there is enough to go around.

Mrs. Z, I didn't think your post was nasty at all. You just expresses your opinion and you gave me something to think about regarding the slippers. SO thanks, and no hard feelings. I think it's good when people can express their views without being nasty.
Ok, so I spoke to my Mom last night and she loves the idea. Thanks Mrs. Z, I didn't know you introduced to the boards. I had to explain the idea to her, but once I did she really like it. I even told FH about the idea and he was like 'Ok'.
I really don't want to have extra shoes left over. So that's another reason why I may not buy 1 for every female. But, you did bring up a good point about feeling slighted if you don't get on. However, I think that maybe it can just be seemed as a special treat for those that got it? I need to think this through. My mom is going to go to Aqueduct and see if she can get the slippers in bulk. She told me she normally buys the 99 cents one from the stores in Brooklyn, but she likes the $2 shoes better. I told her the 99 cents ones are fine.
It's just that I have so many little things I want to do but I really like the slipper basket idea. Gosh, I'm thinking about doing the personalized runner too......ACCKKKK!!!

Thanks!
If it makes you feel any better we only had 2 pairs left over!! and they were white so I guess the black was more popular. If people see there are alot left over they will take 2 or 3 pairs before they leave any extras there!!!
Im so glad you understood my post!!!

How do you know what sizes to get? Do you just average it out and hope for the best? ( I get annoyed when I get a pedicure and they only have one size fit's most slippers cause I have tiny feet! )

I got all different sizes. I have really small feet but know most the ladies in DH family are the opposite. They ran a little small I got between 6-11

I have big feet and I used to get upset because I thought all the slippers were small!
Is anyone trying to go to aqueduct soon?

I have been to a wedding back in 2000 and they had a slipper basket! She did 1 for every female. And at my DH cousins wedding in 02 they had slippers for every guest. You dont have to do for every guest. Its a nice touch to do and even if you do 1 for every female, a guy make them or a female may take 2 so I wouldnt worry about it. It is first come first serve so it doesnt matter how many you put out there- someone isnt actually going to count them and its not the same as getting a favor, the slippers are for an added comfort and touch. I say go with it even if you cant do 250-300 thats insane and also you have to think about getting them to the hall and who's gonna be in charge of constantly filling them up- yes youre hall will do it but I would think you want them to attend more to your guest than a slipper basket. I had 180 guests, I put out 95 and it was enough. men were even wearing them( I did the cotton 1 size fits all blue white pink and yellow slippers) and I heard nothing but wonderful things about it all night and guest came up to me while on the dance floor thanking me for them. No one said I didnt get one! trust me its a great thing to do and you dont have to do for every guest. Do it!!!! i will try to find the website I purchased them and will FM you with it. I know it was a dollar store but have to get the exact name. 196 came in a case and I split it with another LIW Bride.
