I'm thinking of doing my own makeup too...I would also love to hear some tips and suggestions. One product(s) that I can recommend is eye shadow by Estee Lauder. For Christmas, my mom got me an eye shadow pallet from EL.....LOVE IT...not only are the colors beautiful, a little bit goes a long way. I find that my eyeshadow lasts and goes on so smooth... The prices are definitely higher than for other lines but I don't think its mind blowing expensive either. Definitely worth the value

i don't mind spending the money - i'll be sure to use the products many times. I just was hesitant to have it done by someone else because so many brides that i personally knew that had it done did not look like themselves that day. They did look beautiful, just not like themself. This happened to my mom, too. At my brother's wedding she had her makeup done professionally and some of my nieces and nephews didn't recognize her! too weird!

I feel the same way...my SIL had her makeup done by a professional and I thought she looked strange too. She did look beautiful regardless but I felt her makeup would have looked much better if she did it herself. They used too light of colors for her skin tone.

I'll be doing my own make up.

Here is the plan:

Clinique foundation (very like, which is what I like about it)
Lancome waterproof mascara
Benefit Cosmetics FYE eye shadow base (from sephora)
shimmery white eyeshadow, from hard candy (it stays on me) or maybe MAC
revlon colorstay lipstick
Clinique blush

And that's it... I am doing my own b/c I wasn't happy with any of my trials

I'm doing my own make-up and also do make-up for brides on the side.
I can tell you that it really doesn't matter what brand you use, to get the eyeshadow to last all day, put either a ceram shadow of the same color down as a base, and top it with the powder, or use a concealer on your eye lid as a base. You won't have to think twice about the shadow again. There is an excellent picture of this in the new Martha Stewart magazine, pg. 110. Don't know if those colors are what you're looking for, but it's very natural looking.

The colors/brands I use the most are Mac schroom and patina. They have a shimmer to them. Lancome has a matt beige and a cream if you don't like the shimmer. Like I said, it doesn't matter on the brand though, you'll have to see what color you're looking for, they all vary slightly.
FM me if you have any questions what so ever.

I can't help you for stores (I live in Brooklyn). Probably a combination of Dept stores and Sephora and drug store.

Since you have some time till your wedding, I recommend trying different make up to see which stays on you, and make sure to take pictures, to see how it will look.

Re: anyone doing their own makeup?

Just read Alina's response- love Benefit! using their bronzer!!!!!

Re: anyone doing their own makeup?

oh, go to a dept. store so you can try all different types of brands etc. Don't let the sales girls talk you into anything!!! They'll be pushing their newest products/colors!

Re: anyone doing their own makeup?

Michelle, is benefit's bronzer a cream or powder or spray? Does it streak? Does it make you too dark? (b/c I am so fair, I am afraid to use them to turn out streaky)

Re: anyone doing their own makeup?

Alina- it's a powder & no, it doesn't make you look too dark, if applied correctly! Use a good brush. One girl at work, who is paler in complexion than you, uses it and it looks really good on her. They only have 1- it's called Hoopa. Go to Sefora if your near one and try it- Macy's carry's it too now. Let me know if you need anything- I usually carry it on me and can show you what I mean next time I see you

Re: anyone doing their own makeup?

thanks for your advices! what is Sephora? a store or a company? Also, I have to wait until later in the summer because I know that i will have more of a tan than I do now!

Re: anyone doing their own makeup?

Sephora is a store that sells other brands.

Michele, the big macy's has a benefit counter (the one on 34th?). I'll go check it out. I doubt I'll be able to pick up a tan at CR, with my 30 SPF

Re: anyone doing their own makeup?

you're welcome!
A- not just for CR-lol... it gives you a nice glow for your wedding too! Yes, Macy's @ 34th has it... let me know what you think?
Mind you, I've used many of brozers & love this one!!! there's no shimmer, looks very natural!

Re: anyone doing their own makeup?

Some of my BM are doing thier own & they SWEAR by MAC.... if you go to the one on the roosevelt field mall, you can even get a full makeover before you buy the product.

In my opinion... i think its easier to just have a friend do your hair for free... and for the makeup go to one of the beauty counters they can make you over, and you buy the products that you want... that way you end up with all the products too..(it worked out well for my prom with the lancome and clinique counter)
