Anyone doing their OWN MAKEUP for the wedding?

Anyone doing their OWN MAKEUP for the wedding?

I have been to 2 trials, and while they were nice, I just wasn't happy with them.

I went last night & bought some new products (didn't even own an eyeliner) and did my own makeup, making an effort to do it a little heavier for the sake of the photos and it came out REALLY GOOD!

I loved it, and my FH saw it and he thought it was better than both my trials. After 20 years, I'm apparently the only one who can make it look like I have more than just 4 eyelashes!!!

I know some people say you are too nervous on that morning to so your own makeup, but I would appreciate anyones thoughts on this, ESPECIALLY if you have either done it yourself or know someone who has.

Thanks!

I did NOT do my own makeup, but I should have followed my gut and done it myself. I wasn't thrilled w/my makeup trials, but I went with the last for the reasoning you mentioned. In hindsight, I should have done it myself. I do it much better as well!!

If you like the way you do it, do it yourself. Some product tips (if you want them): Buy the following:

Laura Mercier Makeup Primer (excellent for keeping makeup fresh and on)

Laura Mercier Eye Basics (primer for eyeshadow) It's kept my eyeshadow/liner in place all day.

Shiseido Pureness Matifying Stick - it's a stick to 'touch up' shiny spots without color or cakiness.

The ironic thing is I found these products AFTER my wedding - lol! But, they really DO work. Good luck!!

Thanks so much for the tips!

The only thing I was thinking about was the primer, because both my trials used it. I do have a shadow & lip primer from Models Prefer that I used when I 'practiced'

i will be doing my own and have started practicing... i just can't justify spending that much money for face painting. i have been in one too many a situation where a 'professional' does my makeup and i am wiping it off as we are out the door...

what i don't know just yet, is what products to get. i don't wear foundation and have no clue what 'primer' is (similar to foundation?), but i will have to make sure i learn all the ins and outs before the big day...

Primer is almost like a gel that you put on your face first, before the foundation and it holds the foundation on longer.

If you don't normally wear foundation, you should go to the mall or Macy's were you can get one of the women to help you choose a shade that is good for you.

My problem was going to be the eyeliner, because I haven't worn eyeliner since the 80's and then it was either BLUE or SILVER and it was inside the eyes. I found this GREAT eyeliner that was basically foolproof because it is FLAT, so really easy to make a nice line. It's called STYLI STYLE flat pencil and it went on really smooth. Found it at DUANE READE!

Remember, practice makes perfect...so I guess I'll be wearing eyeliner A LOT over the next 4 months!

This is definitely something to think about, the makeup trials are another expense....so anyother make-up tips....how about eyeliner running if you cry...any suggestions..

Go for it. I did it and have no regrets. I feel like a clown when other people do my makeup (not that it happens that often, but you know what I mean) and I wanted to be myself that day.

The only thing I changed was that I went a little pinker with the lipstick which they say to do because browns and reds tend to look black in pictures. Otherwise I was a little more generous with the eye makeup than usual-again, for the pictures.

I don't know if that helps you because I go only to the gym without a fully made up face. Just wanted to let you know you can do it! Practice.

i did my own - mostly Mac products from Macys (concealer, foundation, powder and blush), Loreal waterproof mascara (lash out), wet&wild lip liner, a combo of lipstick and gloss (i think the lipstick was revlon colorstay) and eyeshadow was loreal. here's pictures inside and outside.

edit: pictures won't show (says image size is wrong?)

I absolutely did my own makeup. I had an Indian wedding with lots of colors and I even wore a white goen for the church ceremony.

I was just disappointed with the trials I had and I knew that I could do a better job than anyone else.

Does anyone know of a great powder to wear so that your face won't look shiny in the pics?

Hi, First of all I use this powder foundation- it rocks:
Chanel Double Perfecion Compact

expensive but it rocks. I apply it dry, even though it can be applied wet.

I am having my makeup done by a professional that day for the following reasons:
1. It's my day- I want to feel like a princess
2.I will be way to nervous to do it myself that day.

When you had your makeup done did you tell her what look you were going for? If you don't normally wear alot of makeup a good artist shouldn't try to make you look lke a glam girl. Also, I have to tell you I love makeup and I have a ridiculous amount of it. If I didn't have any makeup to begin with, the total cost of purchasing all the supplies would be more expensive than having a professional. If you do decide to do it yourself I have the following suggestions:
1. Waterproof Eyeliner- Won't smudge
2. Waterproof Mascara- Holds the curl longer and won't smudge
3.Eyelash curler- Makes such a difference!
4. Get your eyebrows waxed and then define them with an eyebrow pencil. I love this one. It comes in one shade and adjusts to your skin tone. English Ideas Brow Pencil
5. Sometimes you pay for, sometimes you don't. For mascara and eyeliner i use drugstore brands- loreal, revlon an maybeline. I NEVER skimp on foundation. I am a firm believer that with foundation you get what you pay for. I like Origins liquid and Chanel Powder. I've never had luck with drug store foundation even that new Loreal colormatch stuff- too oily.
Anyway, I think I've said a mouthful.

I am having a friend help me with my makeup, since I am also afraid I will be too nervous to do it all myself and she loves doing that stuff (and she is good at it).

I am planning on trying some new products before the wedding to make a final selection. I also feel too 'painted' when professionals have done my makeup and would prefer a more natural look. Plus it is a lot of $ to shell out for trials and then the real thing if I have a strong feeling I won't like the end result.

I've considred it.
I had my makeup done once & liked it hough. I am goign to do 2 trials, & if I am not happy beyonf little things they can change, i will do it myself.

I just get pissy when things come out wrong, so i wanted to try & avoid that.

My main problem is getting foundation to stay on. I'll try that primer stuff.

and covering under eye circles withotu it looking like I am wearing too much makeup.

I haven't done any trials yet but have been considering doing it on my own. I was thinking of going for lessons at MAC and doing a few trial runs to get opinions. My eyes are the hardest part for me. I wear pretty basic makeup generally and always feel a little silly when I try to get anything beyond that.

For powder, I am huge fan of MAC Studio Fix. It's in between makeup and powder and doesn't look so dry but takes care of shine.

Do salons always charge for trial make-up? Did all of you who did their own make-up pay for the trials?
I can't decide what to do!

I am doing it myself. I though about getting someone to do it for me but can't seem to get past the cost. I am going to get some nice new make up and play around with it. I have done my own and it has usually come out great.

i am also doing my own make-up. I went for a trial and i just didn't like it. I am a mary kay consultant so i where make-up all the time, but i wanted the airbrushing because it wasn't supposed to come off. Boy was that a joke....it lasted like a couple of hours...mary kay lasts longer than that and looks flawless, i just thought with crying, the airbrushing wasn't supposed to wear off. i wasnt doing anything and it wore off.
