I have been to 2 trials, and while they were nice, I just wasn't happy with them.
I went last night & bought some new products (didn't even own an eyeliner) and did my own makeup, making an effort to do it a little heavier for the sake of the photos and it came out REALLY GOOD!
I loved it, and my FH saw it and he thought it was better than both my trials. After 20 years, I'm apparently the only one who can make it look like I have more than just 4 eyelashes!!!
I know some people say you are too nervous on that morning to so your own makeup, but I would appreciate anyones thoughts on this, ESPECIALLY if you have either done it yourself or know someone who has.
Thanks!

Re: Anyone doing their OWN MAKEUP for the wedding?
I'll be doing my own makeup, mainly because my wedding day will start early, and I want to get as much sleep as possible. I'll look better with minimal makeup and no dark circles! What I'm going to do is go for a trial, and see if there are any suggestions I can use.
I'm more concerned about my hair. I never learned how to put my hair up. I don't want a fancy updo, but I would like some sort of simple updo. My sister and the FH's sister (my bridesmaids) are pretty clueless in this realm also.
Good luck, and do your own if you weren't pleased with the trials.

My sister is a MAC consultant and she is going to do my makeup. If I didn't have her, I'd probably do my own also.

Re: Anyone doing their OWN MAKEUP for the wedding?
I did my own makeup. I'm not a big makeup person to begin with, and my skin is very sensitive, so I didn't want to leave it in the hands of someone else who doesn't really know my style. About 4 months before the wedding, I went to the Clinique counter with my MOH, and told them I'm doing my own makeup for my wedding. The woman behind the counter spent like 2 hours with me going through colors and picking out what my makeup, and teaching me how to apply it. I LOVED how it came out on the day of, and seriously, it wasn't too stressful at all to do it myself that morning. Here's the link to some of the pictures...
Re: Anyone doing their OWN MAKEUP for the wedding?
If I could I would do it myself but I simply lack the dexterity in my hands to have it look good enough for my wedding day. One side ends up looking good and the other does not.

Re: Anyone doing their OWN MAKEUP for the wedding?
I am curious about doing my own make-up, too. Has any bride here every just used a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation? It's supposed to even out your skin tone.
I never use foundation, just blush, eyeshadow and lip gloss. My skin is pretty good and like others have said, I always feel like it's too much when I've had makeup done ( which would be maybe once or twice). My FH even commented that he didn't like it when I got a free consultation at Shu Uemura, which is generally pretty light and natural.
I'm just concerned about looking good in the photos. I'm definitely getting my hair done and my wedding is out on the South Fork -- I wonder if the person who does my hair is semi-talented with makeup she can just do my eyes for me, or something?

i am also doing my own make-up. I went for a trial and i just didn't like it. I am a mary kay consultant so i where make-up all the time, but i wanted the airbrushing because it wasn't supposed to come off. Boy was that a joke....it lasted like a couple of hours...mary kay lasts longer than that and looks flawless, i just thought with crying, the airbrushing wasn't supposed to wear off. i wasnt doing anything and it wore off.
I'm a daily make-up wearer. I use it all and am extremely picky when it comes to someone else doing my make-up. That said, I am having my make-up professionally done for my wedding.
Airbrushing is incredible. The last time I had it done, I purposely didn't wash my face before going to bed. I wanted to see how it would look hours & hours after being applied. I must tell you that the foundation was just as perfect when I awoke as it was 15 minutes after my trial ended.
Here's a tip that worked for me. If you wear make-up on a regular basis, insist that the make-up artist allow you to go to the trial wearing make-up. I went with a bare face for my first few trials as per the insistence of the artists. Finally, being fed up, I told the next artist that I would be wearing my make-up when we met. She mimicked my application (as per my request), but built it up a bit for photos.
When you wear make-up on a regular basis, you tend to be even more picky. Having the make-up artist see the make-up on me resulted in a trial I liked.
Edited for typos.

I will probably be doing my own. I hardly EVER wear make-up and am VERY picky about it. I'll practice with a few things before hand, and make sure to emphasize for the pictures.

Re: Anyone doing their OWN MAKEUP for the wedding?
i am doing my own. i'm a make-up junkie who loves to read, experiment and collect the stuff. knowing i can do a good job at it myself i went ahead and had two trials with LIW vendors. both were really nice, so their personalities were not the issue but the results were. neither one made me look bad but i am really picky and there were elements of each look that i didn't like. the first one did airbrushing, it may be the best thing since sliced bread for other gals but i hated it. my skin is oily and i felt like with the powder over it that the make-up sank into every crevice and pore and made me look much older then i am. i thought it looked very heavy even though it didn't feel that way. plus i didn't dig the way she did my eyes on the first one. the second trial was closer to what i was looking for and she did good job, but i just kept thinking i could do this and for what i would pay i could buy the make-up and have something to show for it. hence, that's what i'll do, get all the primers and a new foundation, whatever else, etc. and do it myself. i kinda think its fun to put on make-up, so i know i'll have fun sitting down with my new, fancy products and putting on my face that day. now hair...that's another story...no way would i ever attempt that!

Re: Anyone doing their OWN MAKEUP for the wedding?
I have done the BMs' makeup in two other weddings I have been in. There is no way that I am paying someone to do my own makeup for my wedding. SO...yes, I am doing my own makeup.

Re: Anyone doing their OWN MAKEUP for the wedding?
Trust me, if I was any good at doing make-up, I might've considered doing my own. I'm terrible at it though, so I wanted to pick somebody I could trust. You're going to have a lot on your mind and you may be a little too frazzled to do your own, so perhaps you should try another trial or two to see if you can find somebody you're comfortable with. Also, if you're going for a specific look, make sure you let the person doing your trial know that. Bring pictures for examples if possible. I don't know how you are, but I'd have way to much on my mind and I'd be too frazzled to do my own make-up.

Re: Anyone doing their OWN MAKEUP for the wedding?
i totally did with a little help from a bridesmaid. we looooooooove makeup and when i went to trials, i felt like i walked away knowing i could do better. so my bm and i had our own trials and did it.
i did the face and she did the eyes.
i used clinique perfectly real foundation and concealer, clinique cream blush, bare escentuals mineral veil to set it. on my eyes, we used clinique waterproof mascara and primer, bare escentuals eye glimmers, clinique lip liner and estee lauder lipstick. we put sample sizes of some stuff in a baggie along with our brushes and q-tips along with us for touch ups. what did we touch up? just my lips!!! i looked like me, but better and it looked great in the pictures and instead of paying someone, i ended up with all this makeup...oh darn.
if you can do it, do it. there is a nice element of having someone pamper you , but i wasn't ahppy with the results. good luck!

Re: Anyone doing their OWN MAKEUP for the wedding?
i know everyone says that they love airbrushing and that it lasts forever but mine really didn't. i was very disappointed, since everyone raves about it. but i guess it lasts differently on different skin, and my cheeks get very red....and the airbrushing didn't cover it at all. I am much happier doing my own makeup and not spending the $300 for someone to do it when i like it better when i do it.
