I just can't help myself. I walk into Barnes & Noble and walk out $55 lighter and this is like every month if I can get away with it.
Went to B&N for the first time in months tonight.
I do re-read my books.. I just HAVE to own them..
Am I alone?

Re: Anyone else addicted to actually BUYING books?
I used to buy any and every book that sounded interesting on Amazon.com. I got stuck with a lot of duds.
In an attempt to save money for the wedding, I started going to the library instead.
And I sold a bunch of the dud books back to amazon.

I used to be like that, to an extent. People in my family know to buy me gift cards to Barnes and Noble for my birthday or Christmas. I love B&N. It doesn't hurt that most of them have cafes and Cheesecake Factory desserts.
I don't feel guilty because most of the books are purchased via the gifts cards, I have few indulges, and I frequently reread books. Now that we just bought a house I get more home related gifts but I still treat myself once in a while.

Cause I re-read them.. and I hate broken spines.
I cringe when i see people break their binds on their books.
I just CANT seem to get myself to sign up for online book stuff like that. I keep saying I will, but I don't.

Re: Anyone else addicted to actually BUYING books?
I don't do ebay cause Im usually waiting for the book.
I like instant gratification. B&N folks know me when I walk in. I ALWAYS pre-order. If they don't have my book on stock I order it and have them pay the shipping.
ebay has it's uses but I can't wait that long for a book. *shrug* Most of what's out there, I've bought!
I have run out of room again for my book so I need to catalog them and pack another box. I keep track of what books I have mostly because of insurance. Not that you get a lot of money but I have a autographed copy of Roses are Red (J. Patterson) & Carolina Moon (N.Roberts) plus collections editions of Harry Potter Volume 1 & 2. The gold edged ones.

Re: Anyone else addicted to actually BUYING books?
Funny that this was posted, because I was just thinking of WHY people would buy books
Veronica, your posts make me LMAO. It sounds like you NEED to buy books. Id never take that 'fix' away from you
But I was NEVER one to buy books, especially novels. I LOVE to buy historical books, non-fiction books, maybe how-to type books, etc. Just ANYTHING BUT a novel. Books that can sit on the shelf and be looked at continuously. But I just CANT fathom storing the clutter of novels in my house.. If I read it, I dont need it anymore, back to the library we go. and if I DONT like it and wind up not reading it, all the more reason Im glad I didnt buy it..
For those of you that buy and then sell, isnt this one MORE headache in life that you really dont need ??? Maybe its just my opinion I just dont 'see it'.
Hey, we all have our little passions, pet peeves and MUST HAVEs in life, so to each his own, and indulge in those books if thats what makes you happy

Its not a headache, I actually enjoy it. I have right now around 75 books sitting in my storage room that I will sell seperately or in book lots....Its good to make a profit

Re: Anyone else addicted to actually BUYING books?
I cant see ever making a profit on a book that you paid retail for. Do they go up in value? All I see is people selling books on ebay, half or amazon, taking a 'hit' for what they paid.
Do you really make profit?
and with all the TO DO's that come with having a home nowadays, Id shoot myself if I had 75 books to get rid of

Re: Anyone else addicted to actually BUYING books?
my fiance used to be like that. Now he tries to only buy things that he can't fidn in the library or that he will consult as a refernce.
Novels you can always take out of the library again if you want to re-read.

Re: Anyone else addicted to actually BUYING books?
Hi... my name is Laurie and I am a book junkie!
Amazon.com and BN.com is like drugs to me. What? I can search for ANY book at all and they will kindly send it off to me?? I try to stay off their websites. You should have seen what happened when I got engaged and started planning this wedding!
I still have books that I bought when I was 17 years old. I still have my Little House on The Prarie novels. I can not get rid of any of them. I have 3 walls covered floor to ceiling in my den. I would cover the fourth wall but then I couldn't use the door! I have like 14 moving boxes in my garage packed full.
As a matter of fact - the night my FH proposed I had gone into a B&N. I 'said' it was to use the restroom... but then I got sidetracked in the SciFi section and he had to force me out and across the street so he could ask the question!
Is there rehab for book junkies?

I buy books all the time! I use amazons to buy used books even if you pay shipping its about half of what you would have spent on a new book from the store! I re-read my books all of the time!

OH MY GOD!! that sounds like me!
Its tough with it just being down the road from my house. Whenever I have a day off or time when Jim won't be home first, he knows to find me at B&N. I practically LIVE there!!
Once I was kinda bummed and reading always cheers me up so I was in the Sci-Fi area looking. Jim had taken me. I walked by one area and was like 'read it, own it, done, done, done, done (both versions), waiting for the next in the series, too slow, done it, read it' There was a guy standing in the aisle and he said 'Excuse me, but are you serious? Have you actually READ all those books?'
I said I've not only read them I own about 3/4th of them. (the other 1/4 I read in B&N or don't have because they got left behind when I moved to NYC).
So with Jim grinning behind me he asked if he could ask my opinion on a few books. So I spent 10 mins walking with this guy through the Sci-Fi section pointing out books that centered on Male heros with no female romance and placed off-earth. heh.
Poor Jim hasn't read a SINGLE one of the books I own. He laughs because people used to come into my house in Queens and see the bookshelf out in the living room (I had no more room in my room) that was lined with Sci-Fi (kept the romance in my room, since my roomies were guys) and ALWAYS assumed either my roomies or Jim were big Star Wars fans! haha Ringworld, George RR Martin, King, Saul, Scott Card. No one thinks a 'chic' could get 'into' that kind of 'stuff' and that annoys me so much!
I have the first release of David Eddings Belgarath Series. yes, it's a novel, but its the first release!! I tried to get Jim to read it. He got 88pages in and stopped. He can buzz through the T3 magazine like it's water but not a book. I dunno why.

Re: Anyone else addicted to actually BUYING books?
If its an author that I enjoy reading or it is part of a series (like James Patterson's 3rd Degree) I MUST buy it as soon as it comes out. I can't wait for it to come out in paperback.
