Anyone else at Lido beach today? SHARKS in the water!!!

My friend and I were at the beach (lido west) today and we were there 5 mins when the lifeguards frantically called everyone out of the ocean! Turns out a few people had seen sharks (6-8 foot sand sharks) close to shore right where we were. We stayed another hour and couldn't stand the heat... still weren't allowed in. There were helicopters hovering and boats in the water looking for them I guess... crazy!

What time?
That's strange...
FH and I were surfing at SmithsPoint last summer, at dusk, and the water was SWARMING with 6-8 foot sharks. Fins. Sticking out of the water. 5 feet away from me.
Apparantly dawn and dusk are the biggest times to see them, but I have been told that the 2 species common to the area are not threats.
Needless to say- I don't surf at dusk anymore.

We got there at 10:30am and by 10:35 everyone was out of the water... we left at 11:45 and still weren't allowed in!

Even if the sharks are not a threat, I sure as heck would not want to be in the water with them right next to me.

My FH is a scuba diver and purposefully goes and swims with the sharks.... I told him if he wants to get out of attending the wedding he has to do better than 'Honey, I got eaten by a shark...'

I just heard on the news that they were actually sting rays....but they originally thought they were sharks!

That's the SAME thing my friend said to me!! She's like... go jump in you have experience swimming with sharks! Too funny.

A friend and I were at Jones Beach all day today from 11-3. When we first got there we saw helicopters flying by. Maybe it was because of the shark sighting. How scary.
