Anyone else feel this way?

Anyone else feel this way?

I was very sad opening presents on Christmas morning with my family for the last time. My dad surprised me with a new digital camera for our honeymoon and I just got hysterical. I am going to miss my family so much.

Why are you going to miss your family? I'm sorry that you got so upset, but I'm a little confused. Is there any backstory that I missed?

My mom was upset that I didn't stay over their house on Christmas Eve night so I'd be there first thing in the morning. But I did come over in my pjs and hair like I'd just rolled out of bed (which I did) so she was happy. I've been living on my own for about 5 years on and off so I'm used to not being there all the time but my mom and dad still aren't. It's definitely harder on them

No backstory. Just very close with my family and upset that I won't be there for Christmas mornings in the future. And going there wouldn't be fair to my husband. We need to make our own traditions.

I totally understand. My FH told me to sleep over at my parents house this xmas eve b/c it would be my last and it was kind of upsetting! I love waking up at my mom's on xmas day! I said we could still sleep over there and he was like 'No way. Time to to grow up.' i guess so but it still stinks!

Awwww...FH and I have a nice little system going. we sleep at his parents house on xmas eve after midnight mass and do presents and breakfast with them and then we go and spend the rest of the day with my parents. we did this the last two years and it works out really nice. Its like the best of everything and it makes 'Christmas' all day long.

I am sure that you will figure out a way to combine everything so that you still get your special time with your family.

I know. I wasn't too sad, but it's sad. I know I won't be there next year, and for some reasons (because of my sister), I'm glad I will be opening presents with my new husband next year, but I will certainly miss that morning with my mom and dad.

FH and I spend xmas upstate every year with my family...even though I have been 'out of the house' for 8 years now. We love spending that time with them and we plan on continuing to do so...well at least until we have kids...then it might get harder after the first few years! But then we have a plan for my parents to come and stay with us then for a switch up!

I was away from my family for the 1st time this year. We went to Florida to visit the fh parents. It was nice but I feel like nothing will replace my family.

I was too....

Yesterday morning was the last morning I'd wake up Christmas morning in my own house w/ my family. It was surreal, I did cry. You are not alone.

But it was funny b/c FH had said to me the night before...'do you know next christmas at this exact time we'll be placing OUR presents to one another under OUR tree in OUR home...' it got me so excited but yet I went to bed that night with tears in my eyes b/c to this day my Dad still kisses me goodnight and says 'go to bed now...or else santa won't come' lol It's comical at this point in my life but still makes me smile....

I told FH he has to say that to me every year lol

I was all sorts of emotional this christmas though.... my nanny got us a door knocker for our new house and it says 'The Perottis...est. 2007' and I bawled!! lol I was like I need to get a grip!!

Re: Anyone else feel this way?

This was my first Christmas away from home since I just moved in with FH in July. It was such a mix of emotions. I started crying when my mom gave me a huge box of ornaments two weeks ago that we have put on the tree going back to when I was a baby. She even gave me my first Christmas ornament even after I insisted that she keep it. I still helped decorate the tree at my mom's like I always did, but then I also had my first tree with FH to decorate too. It felt so strange to wake up Christmas morning and not have my mom, step dad, and sister there. My sister is only 12 and I can remember her waking me up early in the morning to open gifts each year. I got to see them later in the day, but it was definitely a bittersweet Christmas.

I am missing something.....why would you think that this is your last xmas with your family?
You should be thrilled that now you are adding on another loving member......

We'll be living out of state, so we'll probably stay at my parents house- there's no room at his parents.

But it was still sad. And my little sister (whose 21) was making a big stink about it.

I think because I have been living with my FH for a couple years, and before that I had dormed away at school...my parents as well as I, are used to me not being there the whole day. I always spend the day with my family and my bro and his wife meet us there. We still have a great day and we're used to it that way...I guess I never really thought about it before...you'll adjust and be fine tho!!

I actually felt the same way. I couldn't help looking around thinking to myself that this is the last time I'll be there when they suddenly decide to open present at 3 am like little children. I think it was a little harder also because I know that there is a mjor possibility that I will be living in Georgia for XMas next year.

Aww that is so sweet me and FH always spend Christmas with my parents so I can't relate to how you are feeling. We live together now so every christmas eve we spend the night with my parents and spend the christmas day with them also. Dont know if that will ever change. Im daddy's little girl.
