Anyone else have this happen....

I sent my mom to her coworkers to make sure they are really coming to the wedding on saturday because something told me that they probably think this is just like a birthday party and can decide to come or not on that day. Sure enough some people are saying that they are not coming, that they said they were not coming on the response cards but the cards I have say yes, they were coming. What is wrong with these people????

Re: Anyone else have this happen....

They think its a BBQ that's why, they do not know the darn cost involved. I had a lady say yes from my mom's job and she never came. Girl there is not much you can do about it, just try to take it in stride. I know its not easy, people can be really inconsiderate when its not their buck on the line.

Happy planning

Re: Anyone else have this happen....

Welcome to my world! It is awful and totally rude! I had some people do that to us. I ended up spending almost $1000 on people who never showed or cancelled last minute. And these people didn't even send us a congrats card. Needless to say I will NEVER send these people christmas cards or anything else for that matter.

Re: Anyone else have this happen....

When things like this happen, I wish I was a fly on a wall so that I could really see what the mindset of these people are It amazes me when 32 people did not show up for my GF's wedding, now tell me they all were sick or all just woke up and changed their minds. People like this makes me so darn mad

Re: Anyone else have this happen....

Yup...been there. You really learn some life lessons when planning a wedding. Some people don't realize all that's involved in a wedding, some are just plain inconsiderate.

Like Shamma said, there's really not much you can do except live and learn. I just assumed everyone who responded yes would be there, and counted them in my head count.

Re: Anyone else have this happen....

I'm with you ... cannot understand how inconsiderate people can be when it comes to responses etc!

Here's another one.... My FI's friends are notorious for coming to the wedding w/o gifts! Our friends who got married in June just received gifts from some of these guys at my FI's bachelor party! And I'm sure that if they weren't seeing him, he'd still be waiting!

What's the deal? I'd be sooooo embarrassed to show up @ a wedding w/ NO GIFT! Some of their friends said that we've been 'warned' so we know what to expect, but what gives?

Re: Anyone else have this happen....

same exact thing happened with my mil's co-workers!!! they said they were coming about 2 weeks before my wedding and then decided 2 days before they werent sure...not even a NO, but 'I'm not sure'...so i took them all off the guest list and got my $$ back for their plates....at 120 a pop, i was not going to pay for no-shows....

Re: Anyone else have this happen....

Sorry to hear this is happening to you. Some people are just plain rude, and there are not excuses for that behavior (and unfortunately, no comforting words to take away this frustration).
Can you get your hall to refund some of the money, or add something extra to your cocktail hour?

I guess I was very lucky b/c we didn't have anyone do this to us. Everyone who said they were coming to the wedding showed up. The only exception was our priest. We invited him to join our reception b/c he has known my family for many years, and it was very important to have him marry us and share the day.

On the day of the wedding, he had to decline b/c he was sick and not feeling well. But, as far as I was concerned, we were lucky that he was still able to preside over the exchange of our marriage vows and his gift to us was the wonderful job he did on our ceremony.

People are plain rude. If this was to happen to them they would probably not take it lightly. What comes around goes around, that is what I think.

Re: Anyone else have this happen....

This is one issue tha ****es me off. These people are very inconsiderate, but I think it has a lot to do with the fact that people do know how much money it takes to have a nice wedding in New York city.
