In know that I will take his last name and keep my last name for professional purposes. I know, in theory, that I want us to be Mr. and Mrs. G. I know I want to have the last name as our children. BUT, I really get sad thinking that i will have a different name in two months. People keep saying soon you will be Mrs. ___ and even last night at the meeting with the band he said, should I introduce you as Mr. and Mrs. ____ and I just react so weird to it. I don't have the most fabulous last name, but it is mine. I never thought I would have such strong feelings about this, but I am really sad that my name will change. It is me... i hate that I will be someone else. Anyone else going through something similar?

I was having problems with it but FH said since he has no ties to his last names and I have such strong ties to mine that he is going to take my last name and adopt my son so we will all have the same last name. :)

Re: Anyone else having name changing issues?
i have a friend who made her maiden name her middle name and took his last name and her husband didn't have a middle name so he took her maiden name and made it his middle name. so that they both had it the same. I think that is great but our names definitely wouldn't work ... nor would he give up his middle name -- ever.

Re: Anyone else having name changing issues?
i am thinking of doing this BUT adding his name as a second middle name. but i keep reading that NYS doesnt allow for 2 last names and that you have to hypenate it. i dont want to hyphen, and i still want my name as my last, and then adding his name in as another middle name.
that's a great idea and i would have never thought about that! i'm also a little sad about the change so i completely relate. my last name is VERY greek and in a way i always felt it defined me and my background and i am extremely proud of it and how 'different' it is. i almost feel like i am going to be losing a part of that (irrational thought, i know!). What especially frustrates me is that FH does not care AT ALL about his last name--in fact, he doesn't even like it--and he's estranged from his father so he is NOT concerned about carrying on the family name but bc of family pressure, he won't take my last name. oh well

Posted by curliegirl Right, you cannot have a second middle name or last name without a hyphen. I am not happy about my new last name, so I made myself Gina Marie Maiden Married, BUT only at SS, DMV won't allow it.
so it is gina marie yourlast hislast, with NO hyphen on the marriage certificate and at SS?
that isnt so bad, kind of what i am looking for but with the last names reversed, mine being on the end. I could care less about DMV, b/c i am leaving the country anyway, so i am just going to leave my license in my name b/c it is good until 2011 anyway. or is there a time limit to change the license?

Re: Anyone else having name changing issues?
I had a hard time with it thinking that the person I was all my life was changing. I cried the day I went for my name change as they shredded my SS card right in front of me. It gets easier.
