My FI does this all the time, he will refer to me as his girlfriend. So the other day I say to him 'I am your FI, I used to be your girlfriend-we're engaged!' He said that he just doesn't like the word and it sounds pretentious. It is not THAT big a deal-I guess-but I kind of feel I have earned the title and will only be a FI once-and only for 8 months at that! It took me awhile in the beginning to get used to calling him that-but now I feel fine calling him FI.
Anyone else still get referred to as GF?

Yes, b/c I asked to be called that. I hate the title 'FI' - it's akward.
Sometimes he even calls me his 'wife' - whatever...does it really matter?

people refer to us as husband and wife already - I wish they wouldnt - I want to save that title for when we are married, being that we will be using it forever!!!

My FH just skipped over the whole FI thing - he's been calling me his wife since before we got engaged

yes, actually just 'my girl'.
It is fine by me. He feels crazy saying 'fiance', and truthfully so do I.

I believe I said in my post that it is not that big a deal, I was just wondering if it bugs anyone. No in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter-just like some other things that get posted here-jeesh.

Lol, FH did this the other day in a store, and I had to call him on it. We don't like the French. ETA- that's why we don't say FI.

Sometimes but he says it stands for 'Great Fiancee', not 'Girlfriend'. Whatever makes him happy!

He slips every once in a while. Fiance (male) and Fiancee (female) are very pretentious sounding words that neither one of us are 100% comfy with but we say it anyway. Last night I had to remind FH to call me his 'fiancee' and not his GF a his football team's Christmas party. He listened.

Re: Anyone else still referred to as GF?
he usually refers to me by my name, but I imagine he calls me his girl friend to anyone that wouldn't know who 'Jess' is. I call him my boyfriend....I LOVE that he is my boyfriend...I'm not even sure I want to call him husband...there is something so carefree about bf/gf...I'd like to keep that vibe going for as long as possible.

What bothers me are the people who use the terms 'husband,' 'wife,' 'fiance,' and 'fiancee' arbitrarily. No, the guy you live with is NOT your husband until he proposes a more stable commitment IMO. to me, it makes a mockery of marriage which I take very seriously. Some people do not feel they need a piece of paper to share love and commitment and I wholeheartedly agree. The paper is just that - a paper. But I feel those terms listed above should be used accordingly.

Re: Anyone else still referred to as GF?
Mine started calling me his FI right away! But I slip up and call him BF. But we were never bf and gf. We were friends, best friends and then engaged!

No need to get 'snooty'....if you read my entire post, it wasn't a question directed to you but a general statement.
ETA: If it honestly didn't matter that much to you then why is there a post about it?
Oh, and your initial statement says it doesn't matter THAT much.

Welll there exceptions I think, for example the couple that has been together forever just never bothered with marriage, I would call them husband wife. I think after living together for like ten yrs, I think its safe for people to just refer to them as so.

I call FH my fiance, but I feel stupid saying it, so sometimes I just call him my BF...

I call FH my boyfriend and he calls me his GF cause we both think 'fiance' is a funny word (!)

He called me girlfriend/fiance/wife. I don't care; I interchange the 3 with him, too.

Re: Anyone else still referred to as GF?
So you know what I hate, when my FH make the voice of the guy with an ax in his head from the Nightmare before Xmas, he'll go up to me and point, and say 'bunnie' I wanna ring his neck when he does that!

Re: Anyone else still referred to as GF?
I think we have gotten over the awkardness of it... then it will be all wierd when we have to start calling eachother husband and wife.
Sometimes though, with the words fiance/fiancee, it reminds me of that seinfeld episode where Elaine was at a party and a woman kept on saying 'my fiance, my fiance' and Elaine burst out and said 'the dingo ate your baby!!'

Its quite the opposite really, Matt loves saying fiancee. I just say 'Matt'
