Anyone else superstitious about telling people your are preggo?
I have a MAJOR hard time keeping secrets about myself. You can just tell by looking at my face that I have news to tell. My family has always held that you should wait 3 months to tell people you are expecting (in case, G*d forbid, something should go wrong). That is going to be so hard when the time finally comes. Anyone else's family have this 'rule'? I personally don't think that there's anything wrong with telling but my family has some funny ideas about things.
P.S. I'm not pregnant yet...in case you were wondering...

You are not alone. I am so superstitious about EVERYTHING! And I LOVE to share things with my friends. I'm going to TRY real hard to hold off. I think I may just hold off telling everyone but my DH until the 3 month mark. But, my biggest fear is people will catch on right away, I am a smoker and we have my brother and his FI over on the weekends for a few beers. Once I stop smoking and drinking, she'll catch on, not sure how I can avoid something like that! I guess we'll see when our time comes!

The way I see it is, if anything happens to me, I would love to have all my friends and family support me. If its meant to be it will be. If its not, then maybe next time.

As much as I understand and respect the 3 month wait idea, I personally couldn't do it. I kept it a secret for like a week and then had to let my close friends and family in. Then I told others after my 6 week doc appointment that confirmed it. I have not totally come out at work, but certain friends do know.
I also like to look at it from another perspective. If God forbid anything did happen before the 3month mark I would like to have my friends and family there for support rather than having to be sad alone with DH. I think others sharing their similiar experiences with a worst case scenario can be comforting.

I am undecided on this. DH wants to wait (when we are preggo) to tell family & friends in case of anything.

We told our close friends and family at around 6 weeks. Unfortunately, I miscarried. I'm glad that we had our family to help us through this. I couldn't imagine experiencing this loss without our loved ones knowing- and I certainly couldn't hide it after the fact. I'm not one for keeping secrets. Our next dilemma is when to tell people for our NEXT pregnancy.

I guess I'm superstitious, but no matter how much it kills me, I wouldn't tell anyone other than hubby and MAYBE our parents until my 3mos is up! Even if I don't tell my friends intially and God forbid something happens and I lose the baby, my friends and family will still be there for me. However, that's b/c I'm superstitious, some people tell from the moment they find out and everything works out perfectly.

I agree with Shamma & Marcella when I found out I was pregnant I wanted to share it with all my friends and family and now that I just had the MC I have all of them with me and helping me through this sad time

I'm the superstitious one over here! When I was pregnant the first time, I didn't want to tell anybody, family included, until I was 12 weeks, but my mother & sister kind of figured it out, so I announced it to them after my parents 40th anniversary party, only to miscarry the next week.
When I got pregnant this time with the Bear Cub, I didn't tell ANYBODY until I was 13 weeks (almost 14). Some people suspected because I wasn't drinking at a party or at dinner, but I just laughed. I'm not a good liar, so it wasn't easy, but after going through the m/c, I wouldn't tell anybody because I was afraid I would 'jinx' it. But that's just me.

In my family they hold the same superstition. But I dont know if I will be able to keep the secret either The only thing I have to say about the other side of this is my husband was in the most terrible situation EVER. We found out a friend of ours, not a really close friend but someone we hang out with occaisonally, was pregnant (about a month along) No one told us she she lost the baby soon after. When he saw her my husband was all excited giving her hugs and congratulating her. She told him she lost the baby.... and she began to cry... It was terrible.

when our time comes, i will only tell my DH, my parents , my sister, DH's parents and his sister. I will tell everyone else after 3 months. I am really superstitious.

Hmmm i dont know who I will tell. My mom has such a HUGE mouth that even if it etll her to keep quiet she won't. LOL
