Anyone else thinking of not using Mr and Mrs on envelopes

Anyone else thinking of not using Mr and Mrs on envelopes

Hi-

Not a huge fan of Mr and Mrs John Smith on invites. Guess I am more of a feminist and question where the woman exists in this address format. Is anyone addressing with -- Linda and John Smith ???

I am starting my invitations this week and am struggling with the same issue. No one's first name is 'Mrs' so I will probably be doing Linda and John Smith.

I addressed the envelopes the traditional way, mostly because of space issues. For people who live together but have different last names, I wrote out Mr. John Smith & Ms. Jane Doe.

I don't think it much matters. I've received hand-written envelopes (in scrawly personal handwriting) that just say our names on them and you toss the envelope as soon as you get it. Just make sure they're legible.

Thanks- will be interesting when I finally start typing them all out and getting them ready for printer- oh, yes and deciding on who I am really inviting- ah! This is so hard !

I am doing Mr. John and Mrs. Linda Smith. I don't see a reason to leave out the woman's name even if they are married and have the same last name.

I plan on writing out the woman's first name. Nothing drives me more crazy than a woman being referred to as 'Mrs. John Smith' as if she has no identity.

I did it the way etiquette states for a formal invitation,Mr. & Mrs. John Smith. I'm a traditionalist!

I think I'm going to do this too; I too, cannot stand when a woman is identified by her husband's first name

I'm doing Mr. & Mrs. John Smtih & Mr. & Mrs. John Smith & Family...

i dont really care if my guest is a traditionalist or feminist or whatever... the envelope is being thrown out immediately anyway...

I addressed the outer envelope like this:

John & Jane Smith

John Smith
Jane Doe

The innter envelope I did like this:

John & Jane

If I was inviting someone with a guest I only put the invitee on the outer envelope and on the inner envelope I did it like this:

Jane & Guest

I really didn't care about etiquette...lolol

Personally, when I am married and someone refers to me as 'Mrs. Frank ___' I will be extremely offended.

Awww, don't be offended, you are going to get a lot of invitations like that in the coming years! I wouldn't like if someone did not follow etiquette! To each his own, that's why we are all different!

I didn't use Mr. & Mrs. on the shower (jack and jill) and RD invites, when it came time for wedding invites it didn't look right so I ended up doing Mr & Mrs.

I am not a traditional person. I addressed mine as whatever seemed appropriate 'Aunt so and so and Uncle so and so' or for friends just first names and last name.

If you put Mr. & Mrs. Smith, why is the woman losing identity? You aren't putting either of their first names on it. I'd consider myself a feminist and don't care for the title Mrs. so much, but I think it would be safer than putting Mr. & Ms. Smith. Some women might be offended by that.

if you are going to be offended, i would suggest not changing your name! i've received invites like this and it will probably happen to you too!
