We've been without one since Monday. I called Verizon and they have missed 2 service calls. Tonight hubby called them and a rep said we could be without dial tone until the the 17th!
Then they LIED and said they told me that this morning. Such horse hockey!
This rep claims that there are over 800 service calls that are in cue and its not just us.
Are any of your ladies experiencing this as well? I don't know what to do!
Edited to say I live in Coram (in case there are others).

Michelle, did they tell you why they missed the service call?
I am amazed by this....are there any union negotiations going on right now? I can't imagine what would cause such delays.
Thank goodness for my husband's cell phone. What would we do if we had an emergency?

My parents live in Coram and they have no problems....I like the town over and we're ok too....I'd call Verison and demand they come and fix it....Its not safe not to have a phone what happens if you need to call 911 god forbid.

Re: Anyone else without a dial tone in Suffolk?
they said they were very busy and apoligized for it. i told them i have a medical condition (i have epilepsy) and if i have a siezure i need to be able to call an ambulance. they put it on the report and said the will be here tomorrow. I do have my cell, but i don't want to use it. plus my mil called also and they said they could forawrd our call to her(she is upstairs). they should have done that yesterday. i am also out of work and sent out resumes and awaiting calls back. can;'t get them if the phone is dead!

Re: Anyone else without a dial tone in Suffolk?
Wow. Can you let me know if they show up? I will do the same for you.
If they don't make it tomorrow...ask them to active voice mail for you. Fortunately, we have voice mail with Verizon so all of our calls are being answered and people can leave us messages. We are able to retrieve them from our cell phones. If they do not fix it by tomorrow, ask them to give you one - free of charge - so that you will not miss any calls.
BTW, good luck with your job search!

Michelle, did you get your dial tone back?
One week later, still no dial tone for me.
I hope you were more successful!

Contact the NY Public Service Commission. They can levy fines if they feel it's warranted, and they helped us finally get Verizon to hook up our new phone after 4 weeks and 4 unsuccessful technician calls.

Re: Michelle, did you get your dial tone back?
I have called everyday some times twice a day. They are having problems in this area. One girl said to me that she couldnt understand why they where so backed up. I am in Port Jeff Station.
and then they have the nerve to tell me that its inside the house.

Re: Michelle, did you get your dial tone back?
I still can't believe it either. They confirmed it was outside the house last week...but said we might get the repair made by the 17th. I called tonight - I was ON HOLD for 44 minutes (I have a timer on my cell phone).
If they do not show up tomorrow I will call the PSC, that is an excellent idea.
Do you think I can get a refund for losing a week of service? My husband has used up almost all of the month's cell phone minutes...and there's still 2 weeks left!

Re: Michelle, did you get your dial tone back?
The last time we had a problem they told us NO they would not give us any refund. We are having calls forwarded to FH Co cell phone, we are running up his bill. I am calling PSC too! Where do I find the #?
AT&T did give us 2 $25 credits plus free long distance for 4 months to make up for the trouble (even though it was really Verizon's fault - they were appreciative that we wouldn't let Verizon try their ugly tactics to drive AT&T out of the market)
Also, when DH mentioned to T-Mobile about the problems we were having with getting home phone service, they gave him a couple hundred extra minutes for free!
The PSC put us in touch with a VP of Consumer Relations at AT&T and he bent over backwards to try to fix things - they don't like hearing from the PSC.
