Anyone else's thunder get stolen? LOL

TOTAL VENT. I know there are much worse things in life. But every time it is time to celebrate anything wedding related, someone comes along and 'steals my thunder', lol. I announce I'm engaged, my friend (who doesnt even have a steady BF) announces she is pregnant. My college friends arrange a dinner so they can celebrate my engagement, another friend gets engaged the night before, so we both have to share the spotlight. Now, our engagement party is this week, and FH's cousin gets engaged today. I know these are amazing things and I am totally happy for everyone, and I can't wait to share in their special days. I just wish I had an 'it's all about ME' moment during this engagement. It's a totally shallow feeling, I admit, and I feel it's half comical, half annoying. I am the Friends episode about stealing thunder. I joked that at our wedding his sister will announce that she is a Nobel Prize recipient. Vent over.

I totally feel ya, only in my case I actually have one person in particular trying to do that....whenever i bring up something wedding related or someone else asks me about it and this person is present they always seem to change the topic :/.........look on the bright side, atleast those people are not purposely trying to steal your thunder!! its a hard time to be sure cause sometimes you want it to be all about you, and sometimes it isnt :(. *****.

FH's cousin is due to have her 2nd a month before the wedding.
her husband, who works on a boat, on one month, off the next, is in our bridal party. we have no idea what to do with it. he's obviously not taking off 2 months.
did i mention she's due on my birthday?
cruel and unusual.
hate it.

I have a couple of things going on this year, but I wouldn't say it's stealing my thunder. I couldn't be more happy about it. One of my BM's is getting married 3 months after me, another one is having a baby 2 months after me and my FSIL got engaged 6 months after me. I think we're just at that age that everyone is reaching these occasions. I personally love it!

aaaw I know that can be frustrating but just remember that these thoughts haven't occurred to anyone else... I am sure that everyone is beyond thrilled for you and wants to celebrate YOU! For me and my friends, we are all at that time where the engagements start popping up and the pregnancies start... so I am not sure that is the case for you, but I think this is just natural.

When your wedding comes around you and you alone will have the spotlight... your shower, rehersal dinner, bachelorette party, and of course your wedding will all be events where everyone is there for you and your husband... and it will be amazing!

There are times that I have felt that way, but I remind myself that these are all good things to celebrate. Sometimes i do feel like we have an assembly line to show our e-rings to people we havent seen in a while, lol,

Totally normal and common feeling.. not shallow really. You're happy and you want to enjoy it a bit. I totally hear ya.

I don't want anyone to think I'm being a TOTAL bridezilla about it, I'm not like throwing tantrums and I don't feel threatened or jealous. These are great moments in everyone's lives. It just seems that the EXACT moment I share great news, it gets eclipsed. It's like a Charlie Brown kind of thing, I can't catch a break, lol.

Me too. My friend is having a baby any day now so it sometimes overshadows my engagement. I'm happy for her though.

My best friend and cousin are both due the week of my wedding. My friend is not the type to steal my thunder but my cousin is and she will. This is her third child also, but she will def have it all about her.

I think it happens to everyone. While I was in NY trying to find time to plan my wedding my sister went a way for the weekend and came back engaged. This month is my cousins wife´s shower and shes having the baby a few weeks before the wedding! My mom feels like the thunder is being stolen more than I do. She´s like we can´t get a break every time something happens to one of us somone else takes the spotlight. I think the same thing happened around my sisters wedding.

Maybe there are always multiple things happening at once. We just don´t notice them until we´re one of the things happening You just got to look at the bright side.

OK it is time for my Vent against your vent. Even though this is not specifically aimed at you.

You are the bride. EVERYONE is happy for you!!
But other peoples lives don't stop because your getting married. People are going to get pregnant, be born, even die all while your planning process is happening.

Ladies we get 1 day. Our wedding day is OUR DAY. We don't get a Wedding Week, Month and definitely not a year. I'm an only child and realize that the world does not revolve around me.

Everyone is happy for you.

Yes!! my BIL got engaged 2 days before us, after only dating his wife for less than a year, meanwhile me and DH have been together for 5 years!!

then...my SIL got prego! which is fine, but i totally called that happening the second i got engaged!

then my MOH got preggo by a loser, and realize she was going to be 9 months prego at the wedding! and totally got married too!!

LOL! i understand-I got engaged last May; but then my sister found out she was pregnant back in November. I'm not upset or jealous I love her SO much and I'm SO excited to have a new niece or nephew but i do feel like some of the excitement about the wedding was lost w/the news of the baby. I guess because we're not getting married until 2011 and the baby will be coming this July. so i'm sure once he or she comes and we get into 2011 then the excitment about the wedding will start again!
