I just got the info for our next family reunion next summer - and was wondering if anyone had been there.
Our last reunion in Tenn didn't end up so well, so I'm a bit skeptical...

Re: Anyone ever been to Pigeon Forge, TN?
I grew up about 40 min. outside Pigeon Forge. Pigeon Forge is very touristy. There are neon signs and putt-putt places all over the place. You also have Dollywood there on the strip. It can be fun, but make sure that you go into the National park. There are some amazing hikes to enjoy. One of my favorites is called The Chimmnies. It is a pretty steep 1.5 - 2 mile hike, but the views at the top are so worth it. There is also a place called Cades Cove that is a nice area to drive around. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

Thank you!
I was just a little skeptical because the last time we went (geeze, in 1992, maybe?) The place we went to was all run down and everything... But it was more of a cabin type place... I'm sure this will be fine since it's in a more populated area.
Thanks for the info!

I have driven through it on the way to Smoky Mountain National Park. It is VERY touristy - and the town just before the park, Gatlinberg (I think, probably spelled it wrong) is one of the cheeziest tourist towns I have ever seen and I have driven cross country twice. The park, however, is magnificent. It's very lush and green and just beautiful. So if the area around Dollywood gets to be too much, go explore the park. My friend and I would laugh because it was like night and day when you crossed the threshold of the park.

DH and I did a 10 day road trip following the Blue Ridge Parkway thru the Blue Ridge Mts and Great Smokey Mts last year-- Pigeon Forge was our last stop before we hit the interstate and headed home.
Pigeon Forge is the home of Dollywood, which was the cheesiest theme park I've ever seen. The whole town is really cheesy and honky-tonk, full of arcades, go-karts, junky gift shops, and cheap food. Imagine a gaudy, cheesy 'boardwalk' town on the Jersey Shore, only it's in the mountains.
However, the Great Smokey Mts Nat'l Park is amazing. The drives, the hikes... forget about Pigeon Forge and just enjoy the beauty of the park.

Haha, can't really forget about it because it's a family reunion - and they have a bunch of things scheduled :P plus our package include passes to dollywood, so i think that's where i'll be going.
Thanks though!
