Anyone ever buy something off their own registry?

Original post by teany

My aunt bought us the quilt we wanted from Fortunoff, however she didn't get us the pillow shams. I called customer service and there were only three left in the store. Since they're on sale and on their way to being discontinued, I didn't want to run the risk of having the quilt and no shams (and would someone really buy us the shams if someone else bought the quilt?) so I bought them. We're also likely moving in a couple of months and I thought it would be nice to start off with new bedroom linens. I just feel so odd buying it myself!

I got gifts from Bloomingdales that were not on my registry. I went to the store and exchanged some of them for things I had registered for. So far I have not gone and bought anything there unless it was an exchange.

I also bought myself some things at other stores, then removed the similar items from my Bloomies registry.

Actually, a friend of mine recommended that we buy a few pieces of our crystal so that it looks like someone bought it for us already. Sometimes people feel weird being the first one to start to buy pieces. Not sure of the logic but it worked.

I agree with this. From our crystal, we only got 2 flutes.

But, people bought us the BIG matching items, like the crystal pitcher, the crystal decanter. I always thought it was weird because for the price they paid, they could have gotten 4 glasses.

So, I guess that logic is true! People really don't want to be the first to dig into the '12 count' items- unless they're going to buy the entire set- my aunt bought our entire set of casual china.
