Anyone ever had an anorexic friend? What can I do? LONG
One of my BMs is anorexic, and she has just recently gotten to the point where she is scaring me. At first she was losing weight and it was fine because she was heavy and she was losing it slowly. She looked great and often when we were together she was eating. So I really didn't realize there was a problem. About a month ago she came over and I realized how skinny she got. She was wearing baggy clothes before and started wearing more form fitting clothing. I didn't know how to approach her but over the next few weeks we've been talking about it. She went to the doctor, because she's afraid since she doesn't eat. I think it is more of a depression problem than a body image problem. She just doesn't have motivation to eat, or really do normal living things, like keep her apartment in order, or things like that. She has nervous habits like picking at her fingers, and she's shaky. She also gets 'car sick' when ever we drive with her, even if it's a 15 minute ride. This scares me since she may be doing it on purpose. I bought her groceries yesterday and brought them to her because i know she has a busy week this week and wouldn't take the time to shop for herself. But what else can I do? I can encourage her to go to counseling, but I can't force her to do anything. From what she tells me she wants to get better, but I get mixed signals because she did say she was happy at her current weight. I know that she is probably lying to me and herself, and she can't help it. So I don't know what to think. Has anyone been in a similar situation?
