Anyone ever had LASIK eye surgery?

Both FH and I would love to do, me especially since my eyesight is horrible and I'm sick of wearing glasses/contacts.. but I'd like to get some first-hand insight into the procedure, etc.

Anyone have it done, or know someone who's had it done?

YES AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had kind of bad eyes (not very bad) I never wore glasses (except driving and school) or contacts though (couldn't put contacts in my eyes and glasses didn't feel right) so I walked around blurry all the time. I had it done in 2000 (or 2001) I forget.......It is the best thing EVER!!!!!! There are so many things I missed before

edited to say I did it with my cousin and I know at least 5 or 6 others who had it done successfully!

We are SO tempted .. I really hate living life with my contacts lately, never used to bother me but the past 6 months they bug me by the end of the day, etc. I am just a little chicken to do it, but I hear the procedure is perfected now. How long was the recovery process? Do you have any recommendations?

I say DOOOOOOO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am the BIGGEST chicken in the world. You take my bood, pass out, you talk about blood and veins, pass out . It was somehting that I really wanted so I had to do it. It is VERY quick like 4 minutes each eye!!! That day my eyes were a little sensitive, I went to sleep - woke up like a new woman. That was all the recovery time needed!!!!!! Oh, excpet you have to put some drops in frequently. Some gooy ones at night. We got in done in RVC. I have a little problem with my left eye but it's b/c I don't produce tears so sometimes its a little blurry but NOTHING like what it was. I don't use my drops so I'm really bad .

my friend had a consultation and they told her she did not qualify because her eyes were so bad.

Just how bad are your eyes, Felicia? I was told that with my terrrible eyesight, I could never be 20/20 with LASIK and would always need to wear contacts or glasses, so I didn't see the point. But most places have free consultation, so they can tell you if this will be an issue for you.

I am terribly nearsighted.. I don't know how to rate it but my left eye's prescription strenght is 5.25 and my right eye is 5.0 (does that make sense?) I worry about the same things you just mentioned, that they couldn't correct my vision to the 20/20 point where I could forgo glasses/contacts altogether, in which case why bother? I would only do the procedure if I knew I could be free of glasses/contacts overall.. otherwise the expense of the LASIK would make no sense otherwise.

We (both FH and I) are tempted to go for the free consult, just to hear what they have to say .

oh and since you have me thinking...
my cousins friend had it done and she had an allergic reaction to the eye drops.
fortunately, they discovered the problem and her eyesight is fine...but for a few weeks after the operation, they did not know what was wrong with her.

Believe me I'm chicken also and really would be terrified .. I just worry about messing with my eyes, since aside from bad eyesight my eyes are healthy

THEN I hear things like this and it makes me want to do it less and less... I don't need the stress of something like THAT happening, as rare as it might be

i know 2 people who had it done (husband and wife actually) and it was very successful. i also knew someone (an old coworker) who had it done and said that it only lasted 6 months (yikes!). my FH would like to have it done too, some day. i think it's great & worth a shot, as long as you do your research and find someplace you are comfortable with that has a great reputation.

I know what you mean .. I'd love to convince myself othewise, but I'm REALLY leery about it, still. Overall I hear positive things, but there are enough negatives to turn me off to risking my healthy eyes for vanity's sake.

my fh had it done.. he has had wonderful results.. however, they forgot to tell him to put drops in his eyes prior to the surgery to soften them up so he was in complete pain for about a week.. forget about the day he got it done.. so just remember that.. but he loves his 'new eyes'

My Hubby had it done, and he said it was the best thing he did. He only wore glasses for driving and watching TV, but he hated wearing them and always lost them. I think you need to have certain vision to be a candidate.
