Anyone ever had to use a storage facility?

We have to move our stuff into storage and I don't know which facilities are good. Or what is a decent price. Any help is truly appreciated.

TIA

Re: Anyone ever had to use a storage facility?

when my parents sold thier house and thier new place wasnt ready to move into, they rented these 'PODS' from a storage place. They bring the POD to you...you fill it up (or they can pack it for ya...for a fee!! ) then they come and take it away and out it in storage. You can either go to the place, if you need to get something out of it or have it brought back to your home to unpack if needed!!

It really wasnt too bad as far as price in concerend!!

Re: Anyone ever had to use a storage facility?

when I closed my business I put all my stuff into storage I have been using it for about two years now and the guys there are nice. Mine is actually different then Lisa Roses. Mine is like a big oversized garabe(anysize you want) and you bring stuff there and then fill your self. the first time you move in you get free use of the van/truck. then there is a fee after thiat. If you have any questions feel free to fm me.

Re: Anyone ever had to use a storage facility?

I have used storage facilities for a while...for a 5 x 10' room we pay ~ $115/month. I have never had any problems...it is monitored and staffed. Everyone that enters needs a code to get in the building. They have other room sizes.

Re: Anyone ever had to use a storage facility?

The PODS that Lisa is talking about are supposed to be fabulous! We used a storage facility in Patchogue/Medford when we were inbetween the apartment (hellhole) and our house ( ) We were very happy and had no problems. The one suggestion that someone gave us though and we took was to make sure we put our stuff up on palettes just on the off chance that there was ever a flood or leak in the place.

We had a great deal though buy 2 months and get 1 or 2 months free and that is exactly how long we needed so I think we paid around 250 in total for all the months that our stuff was there, it might have been less.

Re: Anyone ever had to use a storage facility?

I used Public Storage in Astoria or LIC or some where near there & they were awful. My roomate used them too & they lost her resrevaton.

They bring these large wooden closet type things on a flatbed & you fill them & lock them & they take them away, which was good, but they claim they will deliver it for you when you need it(Iwas just staying with my parents for a month or so untill I found a new place) and they never said they wouldn't only move it locally. They have a facility in Moutn Vernon, where I live now, but they are indepently run I guess.

And not only wouldn't they move it, they didn't tell me untill I was already at my apartment waiting & nobody showed up!

Re: Anyone ever had to use a storage facility?

Do you remember the company that had those 'PODS'? Our stuff is in a storage facility right now (through the government) and it's all in a crate. Our free storage is up with them next week and they will deliver to whereever we want them to. Our apartment fell through so now we either have to use their storage which is $262 per month or rent our own which I think is cheaper.

We had to use Storage USA up in MA....we had no problems with them at all...the prices were competitive, and the facility was very clean.

Re: Anyone ever had to use a storage facility?

I had to store my old motorcycle (my aspertment complex wuoldn't allow it to be parked there) and some other stuff a few years back.

I think it was Lighthouse Storage. It was great because they had 24 hour access, so if I wanted to go for a late night ride, I'd drive over to the storage place in my car and park it in the parking lot grab my bike!

Re: Anyone ever had to use a storage facility?

we use shurguard. it is about 100/month for 5x10 space, not climate controlled. you need a code to get in the parking lot, then a code to get in the door and the space is like a big closet. the people who work there are great. anyway, p/s is really so helpful if you're like me...a packrat who can't bear to part with crap!
