Anyone ever have a fire in their apt/house?

I really need to hear from someone who's gone through it to see if I'm normal or if I need to get to a shrink ASAP.

awww honey I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I have never had a fire myself but FH is a fireman (Volly & FDNY) so I know a TON of ppl who have been through a fire. What is it that you think you arent being or feeling normal about?

Kimberly!!! Hugs!!!

I haven't been through it but I'm sure its completely normal to be going through whatever it is you're going through right now. However, I also don't thin it would hurt for you to talk to someone. A fire is a traumatic experience and its entirely possible that you might need a little assistance.

Going to a social worker or shrink is completely normal, especially what you've been through.

Was anything salvagable? Do you need anything we can give/help with?

Kim, I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I hope you were able to save a few things. I think talking to someone after any traumatic experience is never a bad thing.

We are all here for you if you need a place to chat, vent, or just take a break from it all.

I did in my old apt. The stove went on fire while I was working and to get that phone call was absolutely terrifying. And I wasn't even worried about my stuff I was worried about my 2 cats. They hid and it tooks hours for me to find them. Its a really scary experience.

I never did - but my childhood best friend who lived across the street from me did. I was about 10 years old but remember that whole night like it was yesterday, smells, sounds, etc. To this day my biggest fear in life is fire and it stems from that night.

I'm sure whatever you are going through is normal. It's a very difficult thing to do deal with. I 100% suggest you talk to someone to work through it.

And if you can, just keep remembering that you guys were okay and that really is all that matters. Stuff is replaceable and the things that aren't replaceable you have memories of.

I took so long to reply that I had to sign back in again and lost my entire response. UGH

Anyway, when we were looking at houses, fireplaces were as important to me as 2 or 3 car garages is to DH. Not anymore, I'm terrified of the idea of a fireplace in our home. I used to be a fan of the kind that works in two rooms at the same time. Forget about it now.

I've got Spidey-senses now. My sense of smell is like totally hyper. Kinda like when you have a migrane and you can identify the kind of soap someone used. I've got that but the smell usually turns into that smokey smell.

I spent part of the day at the rental house with the dogs yesterday. Poor dogs. They've been eating out of one bowl because their food storage bowls are made out of plastic and they have major smoke damage/smell and are melted a little bit. You never realize how much you take for granted of the little things until you experience something like this. All I could do was wipe down the cabinets and counters because I had a container of Lysol wipes. I couldn't swiffter the floors...no swiffter. I went to staple some of the receipts we've been collecting, but couldn't do that...stapler was on the kitchen table. Then the thing that seems to be getting to me the most is the stupid K cup machine and my favorite mug. The huge cracker barrel mug we got on one of our NASCAR trips. I'm sitting at the hotel going through the 85 pages of 13 items per page of personal property inventory and crying my eyes out over the assorted coffee mugs. All those memories of places I've/we've been reduced to assorted coffee mugs. Are you kidding me???? I know they are just mugs, DH could have been made a widower in less than 2 months. But I just can't seem to help it.

Thanks for listening girls and thanks for all the hugs.
