Anyone ever have a fire in their apt/house?

I did in my old apt. The stove went on fire while I was working and to get that phone call was absolutely terrifying. And I wasn't even worried about my stuff I was worried about my 2 cats. They hid and it tooks hours for me to find them. Its a really scary experience.

This is the second fire that my DH got the phone call from. About 7 years ago he was renting an apt and it went up. He lost almost everything. I hated to call him that morning. I waited as long as possible.

My dogs saved my life. Really they did. I was laying there, yelling at them to go back to bed. I mean it was 5:15ish in the morning. DH left for work at 4:50am. I smelled something and I was cursing DH for not dumping the garbage that I put two days worth of 3 huge dogs poop in. I thought the smell was from the garbage pail outside of our window that was open just a crack.

Honey......you have been through a truly traumatic event. Everything you have listed sounds super 'normal' to me. But I would def find some who is either a professional to give you advice or maybe a support group or a friend who has gone through the same experience. Please dont get me wrong I don't think you NEED to per say that you dont seem to be handling it correctly but everyone who has gone through a trauma should have some type of support. You could very possibly be suffering from PTS (post traumatic stress).

Kim, I'm so so so sorry you have to go through this. And it can't hurt to talk to someone. What you're feeling is probably normal but could still be useful to go to someone.

I applaud the decision of anyone who's been through a traumatic experience like this to talk to a professional about it. I mean, honestly what's the harm in it, it can only help. Sometimes they can just help you to work through and process your feelings. If you're considering it, as you are, I would just go ahead and call someone. In the meantime we're all thinking of you on here

i never did, but both my neighbors did and i remember they were having a hard time with it. even i had a hard time with it bc i was so close to my house and i always had that thought of it happening to me. i really wouldnt know how to handle a sititaion like that.

but hang in there atleast you and everyone else is ok. thats the most imporant part.
