Fiancee and I went to the bridal expo for our reception place last week and noticed a few things that really set us off and have us questioning our choice. I wont name the place to keep it honest.
Basically, the thing that bothered us was a $5 per drink charge..even for a soda and they pulled the food away after just 45 minutes. Is this typical for these types of events at reception locations???
They DID waive the $20 event fee for my fiancee and us, but $5 per drink and the quick takeway of the food had us wondering if the place was more intereste in money than service. Ive heard NOTHING but glowing reviews of this hall, from the food to the service, but this still was a little disconcerting.

5 BUCKS FOR A SODA, that's CRAZY!! I don't know about the food - I only went to one Bridal Expo and they said they had food but I didn't see any. But I did have to pay for drinks, I wasn't suprised but 5 bucks for a soda, that is just ridiculous!

That seems strange that your place did that. I was at my Expo last week for the Riviera and the buffet was open for a while and the bar offered FREE Soda. Yes, you did have to pay for the alcohol, but not much. The cost of the expo was $5 per person, which they said covered the food cost. I didn't mind, because where can you have everything at a cocktail hr for $5...it was a good dinner and then they served desert as well. It sounds as if you are upset with your reception site being more money hungry, then carring about their service. Sorry

I would express your concerns to the catering manager. I had expressed to mine that I had heard that the butler passed hors d'ouevres(Sp?) did not come around enough at a party that a friend had attended, and I told them I was very concerned about my guests being fed and I will tellyou that they really went crazy at my reception everyone said that they could hardly keep up because the food was passed around so much. Also work on them on the price of the soda, etc. they should be open to negotiation.

I've never paid for a soda, wine, or drink at Flowerfield. I would look into this further.

I don't think I paid anything at John Anthonys either. If I did, it would have to had been for alcoholic drinks. $5 for a soda seems a bit excessive. Definitely mention your concerns to the banquet manager.

You should CALL your reception site and discuss your fears with them. Since you arleady have an open bar the drink fee will not effect your guests. Call and discuss with them and see how they react before making a new decision.

I do think that is a bit strange. When I went to CB's bridal expo, everything was FREE, including champagne they were passing around. I had 2 glasses Definitely voice your concerns to them.

Re: Anyone ever hear of this???
I dont think its the norm but I havent been to many showcases. One thing I did notice at the one we went to at The Watermill. There was group of 3 elderly couples hanging around eating, drinking and having a grand time. I really dont think there was a bride amoung them nor did they appear to be checking the place out for anyone else. So maybe the charge is somewhat justified if they feel they have some people showing for a free night out.

When I went to a showcase at our reception hall everything was free, including drinks.
