Anyone ever take a cruise out of NY?

Which one and where did you go?
How was it?
We were thinking of going over the summer.

I went on Celebrity Horizon to Bermuda. Had a great time. Crowd was a little older (55+) - so not much nightlife on the boat. Food and island was great!

Also, did a weekend cruise to nowhere and had a great time. We got the cruise extremely discounted ($200 for both of us). It is not worth full price.

I was just talking to my DH about this...I heard (don't know where) they're going to start a cruise from NY to the Bahamas.

November-Do you have any specific questions about the cruise to Bermuda. I went 2 summers ago with another couple. I really loved it. It was my first real cruise though.

We took the Carnival cruise out of New York to Halifax last summer. Even though it was the middle of July, it was COLD! We really didn't get such great weather, although it was still a lot of fun. If you want hot, go SOUTH!

Niecey: I was just wondering what cruiseline is good and if people would recommend it.

Re: Anyone ever take a cruise out of NY?

Celebrity (at least at that time) had two boats - Horizon and Zenith. I believe the Horizon is the bigger (and maybe a little more $) of the two. My cousin did the Zenith for price reasons and said it was nice but she heard the Horizon is a little better. The food and service was great. The boat was fine (but like I said - my first cruise so have nothing to compare to) and sooo relaxing!

I went on the Norweign Sea and it was AWFUL! The food was bad, the air conditoner was bad , the boat was old, etc. Do not waste your $$ on this cruise line . (The Sea) Not sure about the other ships from Norweign.

Re: Anyone ever take a cruise out of NY?

My parents have taken the celebrity cruise for the past 3 years for their anniversarys. They love it as usual - they say the crowd changes from time to time - sometimes more HMers and others more of an older crowd.
Three of my friends (one is one of my BM's) went on celebrity to bermuda for their honeymoons and THEY LOVED IT!!!! They are trying to convince us to do the same thing. My personal opinion on the cruise lines- there is less nightlife on celebrity than the others but the service and food is better than the other lines. You need to decide what you are looking for. I know a number of people who went on other lines and said they liked celebrity best for food, service and tours. JMO but unless they have a nice casino, and disco and unless you want to party all night long you really don't miss it. If you want to know anymore about celebrity (I have taken 8 cruises with them) let me know

Re: Anyone ever take a cruise out of NY?

Ive gone on 3 cruises. Royal Carribean, Holland America and Celebrity. HA and Celebrity had great food and service. RC was more of a younger crowd and we enjoyed the entertainment more. This is mainly dependent on the personalities of those running the show.
Celebrities 2 ships, Zenith and Horizon, we were told, are VERY much the same, they are sister ships. We asked many people which is nicer, and they just said 'theyre practically the same'. One difference was that the Horizon gives each person a $50 gift card, to be used in Bermuda. (DH and I bought ourselves Fossil watches !) That was the incentive on making my decision, since the ships are very similar. I have not heard that one is better or more expensive than the other.

Of the 3 cruises I've gone on, RC and HA's ships were 'grander'. Im sure it was also because it was our first time on a ship, but our jaws dropped as we walked around... They were brand new when we took the cruise, and the Celebrity ships are now over 10 years old, we were kinda bummed that the ship wasnt as beautiful, or WOWing.. But we immediately got over that, and LOVEEDDD the cruise ! I would highly recommend it. Bermuda is beautiful, the locals are so polite, informative and friendly.

Niecey, I was thinking about doing a cruise to nowhere but saw that the prices are close to $700 per person !! I can get Bermuda for a few hundred more. How did you get such a great deal ? Id love to know the website or agent you used

Let us know if you have any specific questions !

anna- I will ask my DH for you. I think he won it off an auction site. I think they had a bunch because our whole table at dinner had won it off an auction. I think there was a choice of weekends. I went maybe 4-5 years ago though! I will ask DH and let you know. he is sleeping now!

I took a Norweigan Sea cruise to New England & Canada and it was Terrible with a capital T!

Ive taken the Carnvial Spirit out of NY for a Cruise to Nowhere and that was a lot of fun.

Never done the ones to Bermuda but I hear nothing but raves about them! A travel agent told me they are one of the hardest trips to get a 'deal' on because they are so popular year after year.

The New York Ports arent as well set up as the ones in Florida but they do.
