When someone sues you, you become the defendant. If as the defendant you feel that another party is responsible or should be invovled in the litigation because they are indespensible, after the suit commences you can move to bring in another defendant, in which case you become a third party plaintiff. Does that make any sense...
So the connection between the parties is
plaintiff v. defendant and third party plaintiff v. third party defendant (the person defendant brought into the suit)

Re: ANYONE FAMILIAR WITH THE LAW...
It is pretty much what the other post says.
Mr T, plaintiff Vs
Mr S Defendant ------- Mr S Third Party Plaintiff vs
Mr B Third party Defendant
It is basically someone sues someone. The person they sue is the defendant and that defendant decides that they have a suit against someone else in reference to that same matter that they think is at fault or responsible so they are added as a third party plaintiff and the person they are now suing is the third party defendant.
