ANYONE FEEL GUILTY ABOUT......

ANYONE FEEL GUILTY ABOUT......

Registering for expensive items? I just don't feel right registering for very expensive items like fine china. I want them but am having a hard time having my guests spend houndreds of dollars for dishes. Times are hard for everyone, anyone else feel this way?

Honestly I registered for the things I really needed and then added some things I wanted, I look at it this way.... People will buy you what they feel comfortable spending, then whatever is left over you can just buy yourself if you still want it. Don't feel guilty, the whole purpose of a registry is to get the things that you want.

I didn't register for China for this reason. It's just not the time to do that, in my opinion.

I wanted people to be able to get excited about my registry and purchase things they can afford.

Don't feel guilty. Some people actually LIKE buying the expensive things (if they can) because they want to help. You will always have things on your items that are less expensive and people will only buy what they can afford. Sometimes a family will get together and a few will chip in to buy an expensive item (like fine china) so don't feel bad.

Also, remember that some registries will give you 10% off on items that weren't bought off your registry so it will benefit you as well

Don't feel bad. It's a good idea to have a variety of items in different price ranges.

I am with you all the way on this....FH and I went to register at BBB this past weekend and we both felt guilty to put some things on the list. Some things we had to go back to cause we just couldnt find it in us to scan it....lol. But we looked at it this way....if your friends and family are going to buy something, theyre gonna get something they can afford. If we dont get something we put on the list, thats ok, we'll just get it ourselves.....

Times are rough right now but what are we gonna do? Totally sux!

FH mentioned that he felt bad, but like I told him, we have a ton of things on there and people will buy what they are comfortable buying. No one is holding a gun to their head and saying you have to buy this super expensive item! Plus I figure people, like a group of coworkers, can all go in on one of the higher priced items.

ITA! plus I put things in all price ranges from really expensive (china, mixer) to about average (grils, pots) and then cheap things for the wishing well or if someone wanted to get me a bunch of that stuff, that would be cool. Nobody is forcing the guests to spend more than they can afford so I think it will be okay

I feel terribly guilty. I wasnt going to register for china but was convinced to register so i picked the cheapest set i could find! I also didnt want to register for half the stuff on my lists cause i felt so bad! But i guess people will do what they can and that is just fine!

I registered for the traditional expensive stuff- China, Waterford crystals... I knew people in my family would buy it. PLUS, if no one bought it, oh well. I LOVE this stuff because I grew up appreciating fine china, antiques and crystals and all that stuff. It was something I really couldn't live without. However, if you can live without it, don't register for it. PLUS they have china that is less expensive that is beautiful!

Don't feel guilty, by placing something on your registry you are asking for it, not demanding they buy it ! So long as you have a wide range of prices I think you should register for what you want.

My place setting are 109.00 IMO this is reasonable. If I don't get any I will be ok.

I felt a little guilty but then I figured I am not going to register for things I don't like as much just because they are cheap. I am not putting a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to buy my whole china set. I put a wide variety of things on my registry with a huge price range (the cheapest thing being like $4, the most expensive being $400).

I know if I was buying stuff off of someone's registry I wouldn't feel bad because I can't buy them the $400 kitchenaid mixer... I would look at the items that are within my budget and purchase accordingly. I totally understand where you are coming from though. This economy is rough and to buy expensive china may seem excessive but I would hope no one would buy us gifts they can't afford...

Re: ANYONE FEEL GUILTY ABOUT......

I registered for things I would buy myself.

For example there is no way on this planet that I would spend $190 on something like a plate or a gravy boat so I would never put that on my registry.

However there was a UV sanitizer wand to clean stuff with thats about the same price and I registered for that.

What I guess I'm trying to say is if you would buy it for yourself then its okay. But if you wouldn't buy yourself a $500 silverwear set then its kinda odd to make someone else buy it for you.

This is JMO....

I put china, crystal and flatware and my registry and as of right now got it all...i know that my family and bm's are responsible for it b/c they know that I love the stuff...I mean i by no means had a $400 soup bowl but I got what I wanted and it was not astronomical...

just put stuff in all different price ranges...people are only going to buy what they can afford or go off the registry anyway...

Re: ANYONE FEEL GUILTY ABOUT......

at first i definitely did...but then, after talk to several people... it seems that as long as you give a lot of ideas, in a wide price range, there's nothing wrong with putting those pricier items up too. because you never know who might want to give you something ... like my china for example...i KNOW it's ridiculous to want it...but at the same time, just in case!! and also, after the wedding is over, some places like BBB (and i think Macys) gives you a registry completion discount on items that haven't been purchased, so you never know!! but yeah, it's normal to feel guilty, but sometimes people want to buy you things that you would never think they could. ...well, i've babbled enough!

I feel guilty...we eradicated most of our china, but also because for us it's not a big deal, and we'd rather have people spend the money towards things we'll need for everyday use, since we're both coming in with nothing.

not registering for china/crystal- just because i feel like guests who will come over for dinner will not feel comfortable eating off it b/c i know i wouldn't!!! i would be paranoid about breaking a dish!!! and it doesn't really matter to me... we just registered for everything we wanted- at a REASONABLE price... nothing too expensive at all. i think the most expensive was the comforter and our silverware.
