Anyone feel like they aren't the typical bride

Original post by Guess143xo

Ok so I just wanted to see how everyone else thinks. I have been reading these posts and thinking to myself damn some people are trying so hard to follow the 'BRIDE' rules. I Love being a bride but I don't think I am following the fairytale path of following all the rules.

1st my bridesmaids are in all different dresses (tealength) but my sister the MOH is in a long dress (All the same color though)

Now mind u I got crap for this from the people at the store b/c IT ISN'T NORMAL i felt like saying BITE ME but I didn't

then b/c I think its funny I want my cake topper to be the bride choking the groom, (WHICH MY FH LOVES MIND U) which a friend is going to lend me. I THINK ITS FUNNY
Now listen I am having a classy wedding with me in the EXPENSIVE dress but I want to have fun
Then I got crap b/c I wanted a cupcake cake and I was told you can't have that at an evening wedding EEEEEERRRRRRRR now that PISSED ME OFF. whatever, I did some stuff to please other people now I AM FREAKEN PAYING so should't I have the last say

My friend had a cupcake cake at her wedding last August. It was so cute! Everyone loved it. It was a Sat. night wedding.

I am trying DESPERATELY to be the typical bride! I think it is the CUTEST thing! I want to have the most cookie cutter, kitschy wedding EVER!

I am really suprised at the reactions you have gotten from people! And I am a little suprised that you feel like so many brides are traditional... I feel very much the opposite! Most of the brides I have seen are actively trying to be different. They want to set themselves apart and brand the day with THEIR stamp. It's very cool. I haven't seen many 'typical' brides on these boards.

I think your ideas are great! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

It's true there is a definite charm to the kitsch....

I have to ask, what is a 'typical bride'....no I am not trying to start drama, but I agree w/ rojerono that every bride will do something that they think is different....no not everyone will agree with you, (usually its family that will oppose anything too modern lol) but, since it is YOUR wedding you can absolutely do things however you want to, whether people like it or not.....if being critiqued about what you've thought of doing bothers you, then that's a whole other story.....but in the grand scheme of things, the length of BM dresses, what kind of cake you'll have, etc.- those will all be trivial in comparision to what you are getting married for in the first place- to begin your life with your husband!! everything else is a footnote.

Happy planning!!! whether you consider yourself typical or not!!

HAVE WHATEVER UR LITTLE HEART DESIRES!!!
its your big day-- so have whatever you want!

one of the FIRST items for the weddign I got was the bride CHOKING the groom...and i still look at it and smile...cant wait to see it on our cake!!

speaking of cake, i HATE traditionaly wedding cakes, i wanted an ICECREAM cake!...lol the hall told me i may want it but 'my guests' might not want that!! so my MOH promised me she would make sure i get some icecream cake !!!

centerpiece table #'s are pics of our dog holding the table #

not having a garter toss...might not even have a cake cutting ceremony!..(we will take pics before hand) ...want to have a great party with lots of dancing,,,lol - we dont want to have too many inturruptions!

i feel the same way...i keep thinking of different ways to personalize it!

for ex) for my college grad party, the favor was BIG RED WAX LIPS with hershey kisses (b/c everyone abuses me for my big lips) ...i have a great pic of the whole party with the red wax lips on! it was great!!)

I am very atypical also.. I don't follow any of the rules.. i don't have a big dress, IN fact I can acutally rewear it and its chamagne since I hate white...
i am not following any traditions. no religion involved.. i have french cage veil instead of a typical veil.. My ring is 100 years old.. lol the list can go on..

Im lurking on the 07 board and saw your post. I sorta know how you feel! There are many traditions on long island that I have never ever heard of and are not necessarily me. And I get crap about it allll the time. And it is super frustrating. But Im starting to learn to ignore it. Thats what you have to do. It is your wedding. You should do what you want!! And my sister had a cupcake cake at an evening wedding and it was awesome! And its not weird for your girls to not all be uniform. And people who are supposed to be helping you at stores have no right to tell you what is right and what isn't. It is your day!!!!!! Try your best to ignore them and do the wedding however you want to!!!!
