For some reason, I felt we weren't getting much money back, considering we just had a child and everyone has told me we should get more back than usual once we had a baby. I just started entering our info separately as married but not filing jointly, and it seems we may get more back this way... is this possible? Can anyone explain why this would be? Am I doing something wrong? Does anybody file this way? It just doesn't make sense to me.... why would we get back different amount when filing differently? Thanks

Re: Anyone file married but separately?
I am... My DH makes more money than me and if we did it jointly, he would have put me in a higher bracket and then I would have owed, or taken away from his return, something like that...

Yes, we did. It worked out better for us that way too.
