We want to start browsing the neighborhoods in search of homes. Which areas do you recommend we start looking (ie: north/south 25A, close to village, near HS golf course, train station etc)?
We are only in the prelim stages (driving around) and want to get a feel for the various communities.

I am from Northport. There is not a bad area in Northport at all. If you can touch a house in the village that is great. The taxes tend to be a little lower though you also have to pay village taxes. In the village you have your own police department too.
In East Northport, I believe the dividing line for the 3 school districts is Cedar Rd. In ENPT you could wind up with NPT-ENPT, John Glenn or Commack district. John Glenn is a small district but I have never heard anything bad about it. I know that Commack and NPT-ENPT are great districts.
Crab Meadow, Ashroaken and Eatons Neck area of Northport are very expensive as well as the Pitt and Fort Salonga.

I grew up in E. Northport. Like what was mentioned, there really is no bad area in Npt. It is really nice in the village. My brother lives in there, but you will also pay Npt village taxes as well.
